Hi all. Looking for head unit recommendations for my 18 Tacoma. I’ve had the joying unit for a couple years now and maybe it’s the age, but I’m less than impressed. The CarPlay app seems to have consistent issues with connectivity. At this point I’m ready for an upgrade and looking for recommendations. Thanks in advance.

Go to crutchfield. Use the filters and make sure to select any specific options you want (hdmi, multiple camera inputs, more EQ features, a cd slot if you still use discs, etc)

If you’re looking for wireless CarPlay, steer clear of pioneer. I’ve been having interference issues with mine for the past year or so. CarPlay will cutout when I drive past certain locations. This is a common issue of you look online. My best guess is that there is a powerful antenna transmitting in the bandwidth they use for CarPlay. Maybe the 5G network getting built out, I’m really not sure? In any case this doesn’t happen in my wife’s VW. I don’t know about other top brands like Kenwood or Alpine, but definitely do some research on this issue before you buy.

Definitely that was my concern. I initially would use my phone as a hotspot to my joying unit and use the apps on the unit but that started becoming a pain the ass so I started using their CarPlay app and that sucks as well so I’m definitely looking for personal recommendations from people. I appreciate the feedback.

These are all just technology gimmicks. I got sick of the crap (Engine, Android Auto, Carplay, etc. Etc.) and opted for a no nonsense unit that had everything I was looking for and just worked, USB capability, Satellite radio, FM/AM, CD/DVD, and Navigation. The rest is just crap.
