Yesterday I noticed my headliner is pulling apart directly over the drivers door where the headliner meets the black rubber door seal. Its a 2017 Tacoma with 24000 miles. Is anyone else having issues with theirs? The separation is about 2 inches long.

Ill be bringing it up with the dealership when my Tacoma goes back in on this frame rusting recalls. Already been there once for that. Dealership had my Tacoma for an hour just to inspect it. I have to bring it back again for the rust proofing. Said mine was good but they are waiting for Toyota to decide how they proceed. I live in Ohio.

Several headliner threads, many based off a leaking 3rd brake light. IIRC a few similar to yours.

    Warranty is the answer.

Just get your loaner and let them have it however long they want it.

Thats the plan. It goes in Monday for them to evaluate. The fabric is torn and came out from behind the black rubber molding. I was surprised when I saw it. I think it was damaged during assembly when the molding was installed over it. Ill attach a pic shortly.

It does suck but there is no way in hell I'd let them tear the interior of my truck out to replace that.

100% guarantee something else will be fucked up worse than that when you get it back.

A lot of truth in this if they rip the headliner out.
If it is an installation issue Can you pull the door seal down and tuck that back under?

And then they can fix what they broke. Better than living with a ripped headliner in a 2 year old truck.

Pretty sure insurance will total out the truck. But seriously, that’s not cool. Makes me want to check my headliner when I leave work

This is the same truck Bambi did $7500 damage to last year. Maybe there is some more unseen damage like the cab being twisted. Everything else was.

I was hit by a snow plow in 2005 in my Corolla. With $12000 damage they would not total the car. I had damage like this a round my drivers door several years later from the body being so twisted and pieced back together. You maybe on to something here.

it looks like the headliner popped out from behind the rubber seal. I have had this happen a few times on different vehicles. On several occasions simply adjusting the rubber resolved the problem entirely. the tear looks like the edge of the headliner where the board foam and fabric are all visible. The fact that it is perfectly cut leads me to believe it could of just moved out of position for any number of reasons and pushed over the rubber. Chassis flex from off-roading or if your like me konking your noggin getting into the truck before work while your half asleep.... (I may or may not have had a similar issue with my truck....)

I dont think I'm seeing the picture correctly. Is the headliner drooping anywhere? If its still flat and tight then its exactly as @Tac0Man says. The door gasket can sometimes roll underneath itself and it exposes the ragged edge of the liner. I just run my finger under the edge of that gasket and its good as new.

This looks more like the headliner was cut. I see fabric above and below the cut. We will all know Monday when the truck goes in the shop.

I've had the same thing happen in mine. I just keep pushing it up so the weatherstipping/door gasket thing pops back over it. I think it's pretty much been like that since shortly after I bought it, and hasn't gotten any worse. It's just annoying.

The weather strip around the doors are what cover that part of the headliner, just pull the weather strip down a little bit and push it back up and it should go over that part.

Most certainly not cut, that’s the edge. I’d rather try popping it back in/weather stripping down before risking the issues caused by dropping the head liner

My 2016 did the same exact thing in the same exact place. My headliner was replaced under warranty. Some of them were cut short at that spot. It's a pretty big job; they have to take to the windshield out, so they will have it for a little while.

The only issue with mine was they didn't push the center mounted light all the way into place during re-install. No other problems. My windshield has also been replaced since then FYI so I may not know if they did a terrible job resealing that.

I just got back from the dealership about my headliner. They told me this is a common problem with the Tacoma's. Said they had 2 others come in recently with the same thing. Said the headliners fit is very loose and they will pop out now and then. They said to just pull the black rubber seal back enough to pop the headliner back in place. I watched the service advisor do it. Its easy. They said bumpy roads will do it. I wonder what about you guys going off road.
