Ok, so I have had my Kenwood DNX 5120 for about a year and I love it. So I decided I need to update the Garmin maps and did some checking and lo and behold, I have to update to the latest Kenwood/Garmin firmware on my head unit before I update the maps. So I decided before I purchase the Map updates, I go ahead and do this and installed the updates successfully and per the instructions. But now I have two issues that were not there before and I am not sure if/how they can be remedied.

    1) The actual Nav screen is dimmer than it was before the firmware upgrade and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to change it. I can change the reciever brightness etc. but not the Nav screen and it is more dim than I would like.

    2) No matter where i have the volume when I shut the car off, It automatically defaults to level 15 when it turns on which it never did before.

Weird stuff and if anyone can help me out with suggestions, I would appreciate it!

That is weird stuff there. I have the exact same head unit and have never heard of those issues. I did receive a dvd map upgrade last year when I purchased it, and installed that, but it did not change any of the settings.
Have you tried searching any a/v forums?

Ok I got it sorted with help from Kenwood Tech support. After trying a few things, I had to resort to "rebooting" the head unit which sucked cause I lost all my settings - but it fixed both issues :)

Note to self: Don't do any more firmware upgrades, lololol

I did brick mine about a year ago, I had to send it to NJ to get fixed.
It still locks up from time to time, I have to restart it.
I also have XM and a BT-200 on it, so it gets confused easily.

I had to reset the unit twice recently with my new Samsung Rogue not connecting correctly, it really messes with the thing.

The repair was free, it was still under warranty.
They also installed the 2009 map update.
I had my older kenwood to put back in so I had something to listen to while it was sent out.

It took about 6 days, and shipping wasnt too bad, I also kept the original box, that helped.
