Thanks man, do you mind sharing how much the dealership charged to fix everything?

The fix was covered by warranty. Good for me, but not very helpful for you, sorry. There was no mention of the w/o about time spent to fix it either.

I would think that if you could get to the pulley (behind the radiator/fan), the fix would be simple: remove serpentine belt, remove crankshaft pulley, pull out old seal, replace seal and re-assemble. Easy in principle I guess, but things might not be so in practice.

I just changed this seal last summer. Do yourself a favor and remove the radiator shrouds. It only takes a few minutes and it gives alot more working room. And cover the back of the radiator with cardboard so you don't ding it up. The pulley bolt was a major pain in the ass.

Which seal did you replace exactly? The one on the pan that goes around the bottom of the engine of the seal on the crank shaft?

Just a thought, take it to the dealer, ask them to check tsb's and recalls
And ask them for a estimate/diagnosis of oil leak
You don't have to have them fix it, and they might find some tsb's that need to be checked;)

Mine was leaking from the crankshaft front seal. I need to replace the seal and the pulley or it will start to leak again. My mechanic don't know that, cause it was the first tacoma he had done. Pulley, seal and labor was about $360.00, took him a hour from the time I got there to the time I left.

Dealership said the original one was a poor fit. Don't know how true that is, I didn't ask any questions because the fix was covered by warranty for me. Have a look at my post about and look up the cost of the new pulley. Since you have to take it off to get to the seal, you may as well install a new one if the price is right.

Because it gets little groves in it, and the new seal doesn't seat to it good. It starts to leak again. The fist seal was good but started leaking, so we replaced the pulley and seal no problems. My understanding fords and Chevys have a sleeve that you put on the pulley, but tacomas don't.

Sometimes the higher mileage, old seals can wear a groove in the pulley
At which point it goes under tolerance, time to replace, or fit a sleeve

So I assume the pulley and shaft is one piece and to replace the shaft you must replace the pulley?
