I have a 05 Tacoma TRD. I changed the inner and outer tie rods, bearings, sway bars, and got new tires mounted and balanced then took my truck to get re aligned. But the front tires still shook. So I went back and re balance the tires but it still shoo . So I took it back and asked if maybe the ball joints are bad. They said can't be cause they checked them before the alignment cause it can't be aligned if they are bad. I am out of options and ideas as to what could be wrong. I changed everything except the tires by myself and they checked all I did and said it was good. What could be wrong with my truck? I'm scared to drive it with my small kids in the truck while it's doing the death wobble. Please help me. I'm a single mom raising my son and my nephews 2 sons and doing all my own wrenching. I'm usually a good mechanic but this has me stumped...

I would try a different shop 1st to make sure they are balancing the tires correctly. The shop should have had a good idea as to why its still vibrating.

So the truck shook prior to all this? Did you just get the truck, or have you had it for a while. Does the steering wheel shake, or is it the entire truck shaking.

    Being lifted can cause vibrations.

The steering wheel and the whole truck with it. I can feel it's the passenger side doing it . I've had her since day 1. I bought her brand new in march 2005 and been slowly building and suping her up. Back in July 14 I started having some issues and had to change the tie rods (inner and outer) the sway bars, the bearings and brake calipers. But I went ahead and changed both sides just because I knew the other would be going out soon. And yes I did all that by myself. But I did have my work checked after just in case, and all was good. Then I got the tires and alignment done. And she still shakes. I am REALLY stumped. I also had a mechanic check while he balanced my tires and he said he really don't know what it could be. And she never had any shakes prior to July 14. I installed the lift in 2010

These vibes started when you got the tires, or that was the issue you were having in july?

Could it be the ball joints? I'm suspecting Lex Brodies may have been wrong when/if they checked it before doing the alignment. It's the only thing I can think of.

I got a new drive train in 2009. Was still under warrenty when the u joints went out so they put a whole new drive shaft instead of just changing the u joints. Shouldn't be out already?

Sounds like you need another opinion and great work, Anna! Superb. Have you ever greased the driveshaft u-joints?

It could be ball joints, but I wouldn't suspect they would cause the whole truck to vibrate. Definitely worth checking simply out of safety.

As for vibration though, if everything is balanced then I would still lean towards drivetrain. Axles, ujoints, tranny, etc.

While you're under there push up on a driveshaft very near the "center bearing" There should not be very much movement of the bearing. [IMG]

There's almost no movement on the drive shaft and all u joints are quiet. I went ahead and checked the tranny and transfer case and they're good on oil.
