Looking at getting a Tonneau cover. The elements I deal with in my area are mainly sun and dust/sand. Also, I'd like to increase the lockable storage area. I've looked at the Undercover Flex, Leer, Tonno Pro, BAK Flip, and other brands.
I'm really not too concerned about brands just as long as it is: folding so that I have a cover when I need it and room in the bed when I don't, is durable and easy to install/remove, preferably a harder material so I don't have to worry about anything piercing through the material, and MOST IMPORTANTLY $500 and below. I've seen a lot of good covers out there but they're pricey. In most cases, people have said you get what you pay for but I'd like to get a bed cover relatively soon for piece of mind and I don't see myself dropping over $500 on a cover in my time-frame. Any tips or covers to look for would be GREATLY appreciated!

Take the time to do a search for tonneau covers on here and you will find all the information you can possibly need.

I have the Undercover Flex and it is a great Folding Tonneau ... but I don't think I have ever seen it advertised for less than $700.

Thats the only problem with solid folding covers is their high prices. I just saw a thread on a guy that is selling his used one for $350.

    Extang Freedom Trifold Tonneau Cover
My 2007 Access Cab 6' box (son owns it now) wears an Undercover Flex that I bought for $700 in Erie, PA. Great unit after a 30 min install. My son loves the way that each panel will secure with it's own latches/wire cable release.

I installed a Pop and Lock tailgate lock for him and now he can lock his stuff inside the bed. :D

With my 2010 DCSB 5' bed, I'm happy with a used Extang Freedom Tri-fold that I found for $125 in the local classified pages. It's working for me now since the Dbl Cab locks all my boomsticks that need to be locked and out of sight. :) Life's good!

Hope you find one that works for you and your budget. You will be pleased with Bak or Extang or Flex, all brands these days are pretty competitive!

    cheers,
    barney

In my opinion, this is the best cover for the $$$. I transferred it from my first Tacoma to my 2013.

Easy to fold up, easy to remove if you want the cover off- waterproof, doesn't rattle, great cover.

I had the Extang Trifecta on my 01' Tacoma and loved it but when I bought my 09' I needed another. I went with the TonnoPro Tri Fold mainly because it looked just like the Extang and the warranties weren't far off. The TonnoPro is 10 years on material and lifetime on frame. Haven't had an issue with it at all and I've had it for about a year and a half now. Absolutely love it! On and off easily and I am constantly using it. And it was less than $300.00 bucks. My old man has the Extang on his 2011 Tacoma and has already had to replace a hinge [IMG]

Got a Bakflip G2. Had it for 5 years and it's awesome. Haven't had any issues with it. Serves its purpose and it has a nice flush look to it.

I just installed the fold a cover g4 elite. It's great for my job since I need to haul around tools and still have room for other junk. I like the option to open it from both ends. And it's really secure. I stood on it(185lbs) and it seemed perfectly fine. It's about 99% waterproof. I got a few drops in the bed when I sprayed water at it in an upward direction when washing the front

I'd recommend you the Truxedo bro but it's not a hard shell.
    Good luck on your quest

Thanks for all the suggestions! Are there any that lock or would I be better off installing a tailgate lock?
