Help

I installed my new kenwood headunit last night and everything works great but now my gauge cluster doesn't light up ? My seatbelt,tpms,highbeam and all warning lights work but the gauges don't light up... Any ideas?

 

Not trying to sound like a douche or anything but did u make sure ur dimmer isn't turned all the way down? And have u checked fuses?

 

^ There's nothing wrong with that question, sometimes I forget to check things like that.

Did you tap any wires when you installed the radio for lights or anything?

Also, make sure you didn't pull any plugs loose or pop a wire out of a harness when you installed the new head unit. I know a lot of aftermarket nav units are longer/bigger than the stock unit so you might have pulled something loose that knocked the lights out.

 

I checked the dimmer..it's just a standard kenwood single din headunit... The fuse under steering wheel marked gauges is fine.... I'm gonna have to pull it back apart . I find it weird that all the little lights like the seatbelt light still work just not actual gauge lights...
Only other thing is I didn't buy the steering wheel control adapter cause I never use them so that plug is hanging out in the dash... Lots of guys don't buy the adapter though an don't have problems... I hate electronics but have installed many quality systems in various cars over the years :/ never seen something like this'd happen

 

Did you tape up the wires that weren't used? As far as I know there is no dimming function on the kenwood hu, mine doesn't have it, and I shorted out my rheostat trying to make it dim.

 

What happened when u shorted it out?

So I checked fuses took it all back out and hooked up stock deck and nothing lights still don't work . I felt around for loose wires or plugs and couldn't find anything ..... I'm stomped? The gauges still work but the lights don't... The dimmer still works the climate control lights.. And the lil warning lights in the dash still work ?????

 

Did you check fuses under the hood? There may be something there but I'm sort of lost now to be honest. maybe you fried something behind the dash or for some reason just poped all the bulbs.
