Do some research. There are a ton of people on this site who run HIDs properly, in projector housings. They can answer any questions you might have

halogen bulbs have a filament that is easy to focus the light from........hid uses an arc to excite salts in a tube...... nothing like a filament..... end result scatter and no cutoff....... thats the quick version

Matt is right, but until then just direct your lights down a bit and don't run your fogs unless really needed.

Thanks guys- I'm aware that projector is needed. Gonna do some HW and will look into a projector kit. They are just very expensive and haven't seen any yet that catch my attention.

They sure are expensive, explains why I haven't done it yet. People who do it say that it is absolutely worth the money though

Oh they are my wife's VW Has them stk with HID's looks so much cleaner/ crisper and I'm sure doesn't piss off oncoming traffic. I have a light shop i go to, these guys are more into euro/ tuner but They fab some nice light kits. They basically make aftermarket replicas of BMW's Audis projector kits. I'm gonna see what they can do for the Tacoma. I'll post pics! I wish Toyota would have offered this back in 2013. I love the new set up of the 2016! About time they have projectors and LEDs on the Tacoma!

the more light directly in front of u overwhelms ur eyes wether u feel it or not and ur distance viewing will suffer because of this. Its just more than ur eyes wanna see at night........ either u suffer or others suffer with hids in a halogen engineered housing. Its a lose lose.

I had some fxr's wAaaayaaay back before they were popular and never got used to the cutoff. But the spread on them was insane.... 7 lanes wide, perfectly white, and never blinded anyone........ sold them in 4hrs on here for $800

I understand and completly agree, but doesn't sound like the guy is willing to swap out his bulbs until he gets projectors. Remedy the situation a little better for everyone else.

Glad to hear you want to do it right. Also check out the D2S kit from theretrofitsource.com if you are a DIY guy. I have a feeling it may save you some money from using that shop. They have tons of different shroud designs to choose from! Great product as well. It seems to be the most popular around here

Here you guys go... the color of HID lighting: http://www.bajadesigns.com/science-of-lighting/5000k-daylight

My HIDs are all 5,000 K / 35 watt in Hella 4000 housing. 6,000 K was blue and annoying. 5,000 is brighter and whiter with the slightest hint of blue and that really helps see color at night (think of the sky in the daytime).

Round spot beams are 6000ºK and the wide euro beams are 5000ºK
(I was supposed to have 5000ºKs but got sent 6000s in error)

The Hellas are now 5000ºK so here are all lights on. The stock headlights and fog lights are halogen (about 3500ºK).

I had an HID kit from Slim on my 2012 Taco and on my drive home my lights popped off. I trouble shot the problem for 2 hours to determine the relay went bad in the harness kit. I cut it all out and put the factory H4's in for a few days. I decided to order the LED H4 kit from autoanything which plug right in and work awesome. The deal killer for me was when you are driving home and its dark as hell and your relay goes out suddenly you are managing to drive by your driving lights only. With the H4 LED kit each bulb is independent and you would have only one fail like a standard bulb. It was also nice to rid the underhood area of all that harness and wire.
