A while back when my truck only had around 15,000 miles the high beams stopped working and I lived with it for a while and then finally took it to the dealership I bought the truck from and they gave the truck a 30 second glance and found where I had a CB wire burn on my carpet but the wire was coiled up underneath my floor mat and the headlights went out before i ever put in the CB so i know thats not the problem but they had horrible customer service and didn't seem to want to help even if it wasn't under warranty. ive checked fuses and relays that i have found is there anything anyone can think of i had a sub wired in that came through the firewall under the steering wheel and the head lights went out a few months after that so i don't know if theres a wire down under the steering wheel that only controls the bright lights but its odd because that is the only thing that stopped working.

If you have checked the fuses and relay above, then I’d start taking a very good look at where that sub wire was pulled. You wouldn’t be the first person thats broken some wires on the OEM loom by pulling new wire through the firewall. Next check would the the headlight switch / stalk itself.

    Yeah
Think back to what all you've been in and go back to each and every spot to look for shorts / broken wires. You'll find something guaranteed, a broken wire or bent prong or short to ground or something.

You've mentioned 2 different aftermarket wiring jobs you've done, check those. Anything else? Check it all man.

When I do wiring mods I put a lot of care in the planning and details but as a final checksum I always use brown electrical tape to signify to myself "hey stupid you've been in here" so I can find it easier if a problem ever arises down the road.

Thank y’all I dug deeper then I have before and found a split wire right at the fire wall that I’m sure is the problem it’s not where I went through for the wiring I did but I’m sure no dealership would believe me so I guess I’m stuck with no high beams because you can’t really fix them due to location and I’m sure a whole replacement for that harness to the fuse box would cost a arm and a leg to replace.

Might be a silly question but did you put LED bulbs in low or high beam slots? If you did, one of the connectors is backwards…

oof, sorry that’s the only suggestion I had. Hope you figure it out.the 19s don’t have the auto high beams, do they?

That sucks, but there are ways round fixing a broken wire where you don’t need to deal with trying to fix the actual break. (And totally agree a broken wire by the fire wall / steering column location is next to impossible to fix on the Tacoma). First would be to be absolutely positive on if that is the high beam wire, Ie get the color code and placement then go over the wiring diagram and locate it. Next find the loom connectors that wire uses in the wiring diagrams and find physical locations in vehicle. Then bypass the broken wire, with new wire by cutting it at 2 connectors you do actually have access to and using a new wire (through a new path). It’s a lot of work, but the majority is desk work sifting over the wiring diagrams.

Just adds one more thing to look into. I’m not sure that it’ll help really and sounds like some of the other info above will probably help more.
