High-Output Alternator

Well, it seems the diodes in my alternator have gone Tits Up so I'm going to have to replace it. With all the accessories I run (ARB dual compressor, winch, subwoofer amp, towing a trailer and some smaller stuff) I might was well upgrade.

Been rocking this for 4 years now with my 160A max stereo. Not a hiccup.

 

My alternator went south earlier this year and I was also faced with the buying dilemma. I was eyeballing the higher priced HO ones like DC Power, rebuilding the stock one locally, buying an OEM rebuilt one, etc..

But based on what I read, and also the real world experience from @12TRDTacoma, I went with an HO alternator from BNR and bought it from their ebay storefront for $200. Works and fits perfectly. My voltmeter shows a happy electrical system with the engine off, or idling, or under heavy load.

 

Very happy with my HO alternator. It works, does what it needs to do and it recovers voltage insanely fast in comparison to the OE unit.

 

I have this same alt; installed it about five years ago and I’ve had no issues. They also offer a 250-amp alt, which I did not need as I have no high draw components. I do have a dual battery setup and the HBK voltage boost ‘fuse’ - nitial output was 13.5 volts; now, it is 14. Also got a HO alt, 160-amp, for daughter’s 06 Corolla. Remember to upgrade your power wires. On the Taco I have 1/0 gauge from alt to a junction box; from there wiring is 2 gauge to the batteries and fuse panel.
