This is dumb one. Do all 4Gs have have the hitch reciever? I thought they did, but I thought I saw some SR XC that did not have the hitch reciever, maybe I just over looked it.

I thought all Tacomas now have the frame mounted hitch reciever. What's the back of the frame look like with out the reciever? Wouldn't be a benefit to anyone who wants to run a high clearance rear bumper to find a truck with out the reciever?

For the same reason people lift pre runners and make them into pre pre runners or pre runners runners. Maybe TRD Pre Runner sports?

    This is a dumb one....
If it really bothers you & you want a truck without one, you can easily cut it out...
If it means that much to you...
    just saying!!!!

I don't want a high clearance bumper. I was thinking if Toyota can build trucks with out the hitch receiver, Toyota could build the TRD OR with 4wd and with out the receiver for people who want a HC rear bumper.

Most of what I have looked at online have been Rwd XC. The majority of them have the reciever, but I thought I saw some that do not have the reciever.

I was just wondering if no hitch reciever is an option. I thought I have seen both examples on the 4G.

That's what I thought. What I thought was no reciever was probably bad lightning. It wouldn't make sense to have two different frames when the receiver is part of the frame.

Wait...so you want a frame that is totalled at a 1mph hit instead of one that has a hitch and totalled at a 2mph hit? /sarcastic post for this who can't tell.

    Yes

Edit. I think I'd rather have the reciever.

This truck does not have a hitch reciever that I can see.

I wonder what the frame looks like?

Is the hitch an integral part of the frame on the 4th gen? The 2nd and 3rd gen’s were a bolt in cross member/bumper support that included a hitch or not, depending on trim. Easy to swap on or off if needed.

+1 on this. Is there a real possibility that the hitch is a welded part of the frame? I'm 99% sure it would be a bolt on (i.e. bolt off, if desired) option.

At least on my TRD OR, the hitch is welded on. No way to remove it.

I was surprised to see trucks with out the hitch most people probably aren't towing with an SR. Toyota probably doesn't offer no hitch on 4x4 trucks where someone might want to add a high clearance bumper.

I'm also wondering if the reciever is absent if a HC rear bumper could be installed with out cutting the frame? The likely hood of a fabricator building two different style rear bumpers is unlikely.
