I have the Sokie Tech struts. No drilling needed. Love them. No problems.

    A few.
The redlines have been great for me with the one exception, when I installed the injen cold air intake, the box was too big so I had to remove one of the struts. The one still works fine.

Any issues with the Redline struts interfering with either under-hood air compressor or a second battery mounted on on the passenger side near the firewall?

Personally I don't open my hood much, but when I do, I don't recall it being heavy at all. Sounds like a nice mod, but I'm ok with leaving it stock. :militarypress:

I never responded to this reply...and I agree with your assessment.

My hood struts have been installed for a couple of years...the hood opens up nice and easy every time I unlock it.

Initially, the hood felt heavy/cumbersome...maybe because of the "skewp", lol.

I bought mine from TacomaBeast before that guy wrote on boulders that defaced the environment--I since have stayed away from the site but must admit, I did buy other things like the window shade, shirts and cleaning stuff at the beginning of my truck ownership.

For those that have the SokieTech struts, did anyone notice the drivers side bending fender? There are a couple reviews on Amazon mentioning that.

I have had the sokietech for about 4 years, open the hood about once a month, haven't seen any distortion in that area, I've seen the same reviews so I check that when the hood is open, no problems on mine

I installed Red Line Tall struts 4 years ago and love them. No issues whatsoever cold, heat don't matter they perform as they should. I would recommend them to anyone looking for good hood struts.

    Awesome, thanks.

Yeah I was looking at these, but didnt necessarily like having to drill and rivet them on.

Another vote for Solkie Tech. I've had them since my truck was new so coming up in five years this August. I open my hood about once a month or so usually but sometimes more often and no issues. I always also raise and lower the hood from the middle in front of the grille. I never try to push or pull towards the side and or fender, so the both shock lower as evenly as possible. I sometimes think that a fair percentage of bad Amazon come from people that are dim whits and/or use the product harshly. An example of this I just seen was 2 quart Mason jar tea pitchers. The item description had a warning about not to pour boiling hot water in to a cool Jar because it might crack. Canning jar can take boiling heat but not the sudden temp change. There were reviews and pics with people saying they sucked because they crack and shatter when you pour in boiling water. So I take Amazon reviews with a grain of salt.

I was going to get Spiker hood struts but when I seen the Solkie Tech didn't require drilling on new truck that was a win for me. Spiker was the first I think to offer a high lift strut that lifted higher than the prop rod but the Solkie tech's do a bit also though not advertised.

Plus 1 for Sokietech. I don't get under my hood too often but when I do, not having the stock arm in the way is a life saver. Ended up replacing my radiator with an aftermarket performance version and not having the stock arm in the way was really nice. I've had my struts installed since December 2020... still holding strong.

I have to disagree with those that don't think these hoods are heavy. For their size, these Taco hoods are ridiculously heavy. It was one of the first things I noticed after coming from my '90 HiLux SR5. I figure that it has something to do with crash crumple zones, and having more mass to absorb a hit, but it made the struts more of a need than a want, to me. There's just no need to have to wrestle with the damned hood every time I open (and especially lower) it.

My Dad has been running Sokietechs for about a year and a half now with no issues.

I’ve been running Spiker Engineering hood struts for about a year now and really like them.
