Hydrolocked

so i broke my one rule that i never ever ever freaking break. i went though water that i couldn't see the bottom of. well...it was deeper than i thought and i hydrolocked my engine. if that wasn't enough, we pulled the plugs and got it turning over. reinstalled the plugs and got it running but it was knocking really really badly. i thought it was lifter knock but as i was driving back to the trail entrance. BANG, WHAP WHAP WHAP. threw a rod. got out, cried, kicked dirt, yelled profanities and picked up the peices we could find, and towed it home.

so now i have a new engine on the way and the old one is sitting on the deck. the damage was a lot worse than i thought it was. there is a hole about 2" by 5" in the block behind the starter, the oil pan has a gash about 1" by 4" and two bullet holes from shrapnel, and another hole about the same size in the block behind the oil filter.

a word of advice, don't do this. 3RZ's are expensive, and a truck with a three inch lift with 33's makes the truck rather hard to work on for anyone under 5' 5".

well, the engine cost me 2700, its a recycled engine with less than 60k on it, and its got a lifetime gaurantee on it. so if it breaks again i call them up and they send me a new one.

i did it out in Argyle Forest in Orange Park. the mudding was sweet but i had the biggest truck so i was the first to go through most of the muck.

and for the lesson part, absolutely, i do NOT want to have to do this again.

well, the old motor is out and the new one is in. let me tell you, toyota makes an engine that is not meant to be changed. difficult barely begins to describe what i've just gone though.
