I have an '11 dclb trd sport with the jbl system. It just isnt cutting it.. the front two door tweeters are just full of static and crackle really bad. most of the system cant handle much mid bass. I listen to metal and lots of classic metal. Im not looking for a bunch of subwoofers.. In my old chevy i replaced all the factory stuff with pioneer stuff and added a couple 10s and a sub. its plenty.. But, the factory sub and such in the tacoma just isnt cutting it... mainly the tweeters are pissing me off.. and it just needs more clarity at volume. do i need to replace everything? or can i piggy back off the stock system and replace a few speakers... im not looking to cut anythng up in the storage.. i might could do something witht he factory sub and not lose storage.. but i want to keep most of my storage if possible. I gotta admit, it would be nice to have a bluetooth setup instead of using an aux cable all the time.. help me out here with some ideas of really what i should do...

Unfortunately, the JBL system isn’t an easy incremental upgrade. You can replace speakers, but anything more than that requires a full system overhaul, deleting the JBL equipment entirely.

If you are already inclined to replace the factory stereo, you should just go ahead and plan out what you’d ultimately like to end up with. You’ll need an aftermarket head unit, amplifier(s), speakers, wiring, and if desired, signal processing.

It’s possible that your crackle is in the signal path of your JBL system and not the midrange/tweeters themselves so just replacing those might not resolve that issue (troubleshoot this before deciding on what to do). Also keep in mind that the factory JBL system isn’t using your typical crossover points, so tossing a set of components in the front doors will leave you trying to figure out how to get the right parts of the audio spectrum to the right components, probably easier in a three way component speaker system. Then, you are still left with the default JBL tuning and volume dependent frequency attenuation.

IMO you are going to end up replacing the whole thing and spending $2K+, or your goals won’t be met.
