Did you have to take the housing apart to replace that or just pop it in?

Just take the key cylinder thing out and replace the rod.

If the new part you have coming comes out together and no key you’ll have to have a lock smith drill the cylinder out.

Didn’t seem safe so we took the whole assembly off so the lock bolt wouldn’t keep locking the wheel.

Hello, reviving this thread, I have my 95.5 tacoma v6 auto and the key just spins, its not the cylinder, I took the cylinder out, then I took out the rod with a magnetic tool and it just came out it was broken just like OP’s, made room under the steering column to have enough space to get to the ignition switch in the back and I was able to remove the other half of the rod. I found a website that sells the rod for $130. Is the old part weldable? In the meantime I can turn the truck on with a flat head screwdriver, but the steering is locked, how do I bypass this? Thanks.
