Ignition trouble.

2006 6cyl. 6speed.

Go to turn the truck off and the engine continues to run.

Turn the key all the way back, radio, lights, acc. cut off but not the engine.
Had to stall it out to get it to turn off.

WTF.

 

Ran fine this morning. Took a trip to the lumber yard, parked the truck when I came back. When I got home and tried to turn it off, it wouldn't.

 

Any electrical aftermarket stuff done to it? Just guessing, but Maybe a bad ignition switch in the steering column getting stuck in the on position.

 

All of a sudden the switch goes bad I guess?!

All my after market stuff runs through a separate fuse block.

I'm not sure what is going on, I'm scratching my head.

I tried to shut it off with two different keys and no luck on either one. .

 

Kind of like when a car "diesels" .... I had this happen with a corolla back in the day, I took the key out and it still sputtered indefinitely. Ended up being a stuck ignition switch, kept the car running even with the key taken out.

 

That can't happen with fuel injectors when the circuit is cut there is no fuel supply.

I would have to agree you have a defective ignition switch as there are too many things that have to happen for it to keep running.

 

Tell that to my 87 Corolla

I'd test the relay or try a new relay before the ignition switch.

 

Great time to upgrade to push button start.

 

Worked fine today. Still doesn't mean I don't have a problem though. I just don't have time to look into it right now.

 

Then you have a leaking injector or another issue....

An engine cannot run on without fuel.
