Inflatable bed topper

To me it looks gimmicky, which makes sense why it was on Shark Tank and they reached a deal. To their credit, I like it when people come up with innovative products that might not catch on, but at least they tried.

 

Foegot about the softtopper, i dig those. But neither of those is secure. Someone wants your shit, they can get it with a knife.

 

All they need is a hammer, or even a rock to break glass and get your stuff from any vehicle.

My biggest concern with something like this or even the soft toppers is longevity. I've owned a few Wranglers over the years. The soft tops on those need to be replaced every 7-10 years. I'm sure the life expectancy of the inflatable or a soft top is no better. The fiberglass top on my Tacoma is getting close to 17 years old and is still as good as new. I did have to spend $30 to replace the struts that hold the back window open.

 

An aluminum Ridgelander tonneau lives on my truck. I'm only interested in a Softopper for camping, it would live in storage most of the time.

Kinda cool thought it was a only use while not in motion type thing. Didn't know you could leave it on always inflated.

 

Like anything it has a purpose, on a dark truck you wouldn't notice it that much. It isn't like you got drunk and found the that one lonely gal at the bar nobody wanted to talk to, but you take her home after your friends leave. 1800 isn't that bad now days. For something that can keep your stuff dry and come off when not in use. I've pissed away more on an investment that went south in my lifetime. I'd like it for the price OP got it for.. just checked out the site, I guess I'm SOL not in my size, my luck.

 

How does it hold up going through thick brush with thorns?

Fiberglass is no better, the awesome folks in Eugene, Or showed me how easy my canopy was to break into out front a well lite holiday inn.

 

I do wonder how well it would stay inflated in cold temperatures? How 'bout when you're driving down the highway in moderate temperature conditions, and then say you encounter stormy or blizzardy conditions with a sharp drop in temperature? Conversely, how about very warm temperatures causing the thing to overinflate and maybe spring a leak? The thing might be innovative, but practical applications seem pretty limited.

 

I have a gauge and will keep you posted through the seasons. Same concept of SUP in hot summer days, just keep an eye on the PSI!

 

I don’t ever consider security with any bed cover. If someone wants in your truck bed, they are getting in. I have yet to see any bed cover that’s very secure. A crow bar and crackhead is an unbeatable force.

Resurrecting a dead thread but I've been debating getting one of these and was wondering if you could answer some questions:

Do you leave it on all the time?
Did you see a MPG drop at all?
Do you know the height from the bed to the inside roof?
