Instrument cluster glass replacement

I don't know why it's called "glass" since it's actually plastic, but whatever.

I had a scratch on mine right through the center. When I had it out replacing a burned out bulb, I decided to try and fix it by buffing it with my Dremel.

So...that didn't work so well. Fix it until it's broke is my motto, yessiree.

Novus Plastic Polish Kit on a friend's recommendation. I'll try that when it comes in.

Alternately, I've sent a parts request to Camelback to see what they have for pricing.

Does anybody have a known cheap source for a replacement? I didn't see anything on Rockauto. Cheap being not $50+

The particulars are: Tacoma DLX 3.4L V6 4x4 Auto.

The part number is supposedly 8313804050 from what I've been able to determine on various sites.

When I first bought my truck I got a new plastic for fairly cheap from one of those online dealerships. It wasn't more than $25, I can't see it going up that much in price over 5 years but maybe they have.

 

Well, Camelback never replied to my request, and the Novus kit showed up, so I tried that.

Amazing.

$10 and some elbow grease while watching a TV show and the plastic is clear and shiny again! I can barely make out where I screwed up with the Dremel if I hold it just right, but looking straight on I'd never see it.

Sure beats the cost of replacement.

Now to just pull the dash apart again today to plug the speedo cable in that I forgot...

now its shown for my 99 taco so yours might not be the same part number but they are all available at the dealer priced at around $25
