    Of course that is fixable.

I good welder/technician can heat and shape it right back to normal; then weld it, actually better than it was.

Why in the world would you hook a tow chain to that, trailer safety chain, attaching point? Well I guess you learned something.

Yeah sorry, I guess my post was a little weird. I was agreeing with you and the question was directed at OP.

safety chains will be fine there... totally different scenario....the trailer is already full of forward momentum if the hitch fails
and the chains are needed while you are braking to a complete stop

LOL using that as a recovery point.

I was in the same scenario this past weekend. There was an Optimum cable 2wd van stuck in about a foot of snow ROASTING his rear tires. My friend has a wrangler with 33" knobby tires and lockers and decided to try and pull him out. Needless to say the wrangler got even more stuck when he dug in. I said F*** it and hooked up to wrangler that was hooked up to the optimum van. I put it in 4wd low, rear locker engaged and A-trac button and I pulled them all out to everyone's disbelief. I was actually amazing it even worked! That's the link to the exact hook I used to pull about 10,000 combined weight right out of the snow along with the harbor freight yellow tow strap.

It wouldn't hurt to get it up on a lift and just check that there isn't some stress deformation you can't see right off to bat. Be sure no cracked bolts in the rear suspension, things like that. Never hurts to be extra cautious where safety is concerned. The tow chain loop should be fixable, since it's not normally a load bearing point.

The rest of the lesson is that somebody could have been hurt or killed. Seriously, it really is kind of a big deal. When doing a vehicle recovery there is an incredible amount of stored energy. Only attach to engineered recovery points on both vehicles and use a proper recovery strap. Recovery straps are also called snatch straps. There are also versions that look like a rope. Bubba Rope is an example. Don't use chains and don't use tow straps because they don't stretch and should only be used for towing a disabled vehicle from point to point. Cables (steel or synthetics like Amsteel) should only be used while winching. Here is a good primer from ARB on how to properly go about a recovery like the one you performed.

I think you mean a recovery strap as they have stretch and can absorb and deal with the sudden onset of energy vs a tow strap that is static.

Most places have switched to calling them Recovery Straps and some places still call them Tow Straps. Yes, the ones that stretch and use the elastic energy to break the truck loose. These are typically 2" or 3" in width.

I'm not talking about a "Sling"; which is used to wrap around something to use as an anchor point when. These don't stretch and are about 4"-6" in width.

Well the one you posted from 4 wheel parts still appears to be the standard tow strap/winch extension. Which is still the wrong one. Unless its somehow doing double duty. Not sure why they would sell it with a snatch block and a damper blanket if it was a true snatch style. Wouldn't want it to stretch when doing a winch "recovery".

You know a lot of people I know have used their Tacoma to help someone who got stuck, almost all were significantly bigger too! Props to the ultra capable Taco and owners!

Props to the OP for pulling out a Ford. A lesson learned for where to hook up though? Weld it up and never hook anything to the safety chain mounts but... safety chains.

Take it to a welder/fabricator and have them straighten it out and weld a new price over top, the thing will be as good as new.
