I have a 2004 Tacoma 4x4 ext cab that has been passed down from my dad. I replaced the tail lights for a euro looking light housing with normal bulbs but it melted the housing. I ordered a more expensive euro light with led lights and didn’t pay attention to the year being the gen right before my truck.
I’ve been on forums and saw that some of the wiring doesn’t match and that passenger tail powers thru the driver side. ive bought a OEM set and cut the harness and wired to my new lights.
I got em to work now for the most part. Tail running lights up, brakes work reverse lights work. But now the issue is only on my driver side the blinker lights up the reverse light. But without blinker the reverse lights up fine. I can’t figure out why the blinker is sending power to the reverse light bulb. any help or advise is greatly appreciated.

Off topic, but did your dad do that lift in your profile?

Having a similar issue on my truck right not putting LED trailer lights on. Somehow the right running light is hooked to the reverse light. Did you ever figure it out?

I found the connector to be corroded and loose in my own taillight replacement journey. higher resistance does manifest itself as heat, but not sure the 10A would allow for enough to melt anything. it may be worth looking into it, as I only had to de-pin the connector, wire wheel the individual pins, and tighten them up with a pair of needle-nose pliers.

    It’s the LED bulbs

    I went through same thing
    Real strange/exorcist stuff happening
-reverse lamps work but one brake lite on
-blinker would flash then opo side running lamp stays on

the housings (that came with leds) looked/fit fine
I ditched all leds, replaced with conventional bulbs…..all is well
