KBVoodoo rack issue

This is why I spray bomb every bit of armor on the truck easy to touch up. Even at that it takes a while for it to start rusting as bad as that video Joe posted. A rough scotch brite pad and some rusty metal primer then blk good as new. Since you know the next trip it'll get chipped again.

Also as far as PC goes and from my experience with rattle can paint jobs I have notices really hard edges tend to be where chips occur more readily and easily but having a little radius to them they don't chip or flake as easily. Just a thought and from some of the stuff I've seen with pics here and in person.

 

I learned about this when I was at joes last time. When parts get plasma cut, the edges are essentially heat treated which makes it more difficult to sand blast and properly prep. Using a different gas in the cutter (I think it was nitrogen) keeps the arc cooler and then you don't have that issue anymore. Thought that was cool.

 

It will definitely take a while for it to get to that point. Unfortunately rust from a scratch will quickly spread under all of the powder coat, and could rust from the inside out. Of course this would take quite a while to be noticed or even appear. But you're right it doesn't take much to touch up those spots

 

Yeah there is all sorts of weird things. I have noticed even hard edges that weren't hit with a plasma just a sheer if you knock the edge off with a file and give it a little chamfer the paint or any coating goes on better and adheres to that edge better.

 

Thought this was cool as well, so rounding off the edge like you said would help.

 

I don't have any personal experience with PC just paint really and it seems like Paint is less susceptible to the rust getting behind it as some of the other coatings.

 

Yeah exactly but I didn't know the science behind it just an observation. Probably many factors lead to this type stuff and they just compound.

Well I don't prep well you can ask Randy and besides where my armor hits shit it seems like it's holding up better than the PC on these racks.

Wouldn't have thought that. But of course for armor I prefer paint anyways since its much easier to touch up after slamming into rocks trees etc.

With all these powder issues I would've stripped those racks and re-coated them a $5 can of spray paint and primer would be better than the coatings on those racks

 

Wish you could order their products in the white so that way you could coat them how you wanted.

 

Yeah that doesn't make sense to me, it would save him not only money but also from having to deal with powder coat complaints

 

My Boston loved to look at the back slider on my '95 Nissan Hardbody truck. Sadly, had to put him down after 13 years this past November.

 

I don't think that'll work. Typically ordering in white will either be primed or raw. Raw would definitely have oxidation but it's okay for competent finishers... and anything primed will need to have... A) a wash primer/ sealer that's probably expensive ( labor or material ) or B) Sweep Media Blasted ( frost blasting ) and then primed - again, labor and material....

 

There’s a lot of bare aluminum and steel parts that are bought and sold on a regular basis.

I’d say it’s pretty easy.

 

Agreed, all armor that isn’t pc’d is shipped bare. Unless that shit is stored outside in the rain, the amount of rust on it is negligible

Raw is what I meant. I've gotten all my armor raw and have had no issues with them being really rusty on delivery. All I needed to do was run over them with a scotch brite pad then some acetone and ready to go.
