Good afternoon my fellow Taco owners. I'm not sure if this post has been made before. But here goes. I recently bought a 2007 Toyota Tacoma. And it only came with one key. I bought two transponder keys from eBay. And I went to try to manually program the key and my truck didn't go into program mode.

Stick key in ignition 5 times
    Open door 6 times
    Remove original key.
    Insert blank virgin transponder key.
    Wait 1 min.

But my trucks immobilizer key light never stayed solid.

    Any help? Thanks.

That doesn't work. You need a locksmith or you can buy a key programmer on Amazon/ebay that plugs into the OBD2 port.

Do you have a black key? My 06 needed that to add additional keys.

It doesn't work. You need either a locksmith or to buy the programmer. Period.

Yep. I tried the jump on 1 foot, run around the truck 3 times, blink your eyes twice, yada, yada, and couldn't get it to program. Bought the ~$40 Techstream put it on a laptop and programmed the new keys.

What can be done if I only have a valet key? Can I delete the old keys from the computer and program new master keys? (This would be on an '06) and subsequently add the valet key back in?

Supposedly the purpose of the grey valet key is that it doesn’t allow an additional key to be programmed to the truck. However, 1 TW member was successful in programming more keys, when he only had a valet key, by using the ebay keymaker.

I got the OBDII connector and such already, just haven't taken it out to the truck to try it out. I'll reply once I figure it all out / attempt to do something.

Sorry for the dumb question, but did you try just starting it with a non programmed key?

The key guy INSISTED that my 2008 needed a chip key and wouldn't make me a key because he only had regular metal $3 Toyota blanks. I told him fine make me a door only-key. He did. Sure enough it's fully functional and started the truck.

There's an antenna surrounding the key hole. If you have a working fob but not key, you can hold the fob next to the keyhole and use a regular key, no problem.

How does that work when the FOB doesn't have a chip in it?
