Kicker KISLOC install questions

I plan on putting in the kicker kisloc RCA converter this weekend to link up my Alpine MRV500.

I am not very comfortable doing this myself. Anybody have any advice on the best location to splice this converter? All of my past installs have involved ditching the stock head unit so I am a green horn in this area.

I would say take out the HU and tap into the wires behind there, you could try to find the speaker wires in the kick panels of your truck, but it maybe hard to decipher between all the wires there. From behind the HU there is no guess work. This video will show you how to remove the HU...

I used the 1987 and newer chart to locate the wire colors....
I tapped into the wires connected to Pin A (Green right +) and Pin F (Purple left -) *there are 2 green'ish wires, you want to tap into the thicker of the 2 wires.

Also just an FYI, if you are installing an Amp then you will also need to install the remote wire. The factory remote wire is a thinner grey wire, i think its Pin C if i remember correctly.

It should as i used the same one for my 2013 tacoma install.

What sub are you installing?

 

I've got a Alpine SWS-10D2 with a ported box that I had in my Tundra. Doesn't piss off the neighbors but enough bump to satisfy my needs!

Just swapping it over! Will eventually want to sound deaden and replace the door speakers but stock speakers will suffice for now.

 

Nice! I like a bit more than that but that is just my own preference...

 

I wouldn't mind a bit more, may be an option I explore when I upgrade the rest of the system!

How did you splice into the harness? T connectors?

 

That is exactly what i used.

 

Did you end up having to use the ground wire on the KISLOC?

 

No, what i ended up doing was connecting the 2 wires with the black stripe together and then taping those into the purple - wire, then the other 2 without the black stripe to the green + wire and never used the ground.

 

Ok I had read some mixed reviews on Amazon whether people had to use the ground wire or not.
I just went through your tacoma build thread, looked like a solid set up! I planned on eventually doing some business with Mr. Marv as well.
At this point I am just saving up some cash for a proper install and trying to make use of what I've already got.

Is there any big reason you stayed with the 6x9s on your fronts and not just running 6.5s in all doors? Is the hybrid audio the brand that Mr. Marv recommended to you?

Umm i think Marv mentioned the name to be but after researching the brand i was sold. Also i have contacted hybrid audio several times over the phone, they have been very helpful with everything i called them about. Made buying them that much better! Marv is a good guy with a lot of knowledge to pull out of his head. His boxes are awesome as he also installs cabinets in homes, and that shit isnt easy to do! I def recommend his boxes to anyone looking for one!

I stayed with the 6x9s because i wanted more "mid bass" in my ride, 6x9s are larger than 6.5s and have more mid bass. You have Bass, Mid bass, mids, upper mids, tweets basically that you will play with if you have an active crossover. Crossover range for Bass is typically 20-140Hz, mid bass is 140-400Hz, mids 400-2.6kHz, upper mids, 2.6-5.2kHz, highs 5.2-20kHz.

 

I always thought keeping the 6x9s in front would be better as well. I was seeing more people switching to 6.5s and couldn't figure out why other than maybe pricing...

Ive built a few ice chest radios with 3-4 3way 6x9s and they absolutely scream!

I was leaning towards Alpine R components but ill definitely give hybrid audio look!

No problem! The type Rs are nice! I was looking at them also before i decided to throw a lot of money towards hybrid! haha.

The 6.5's these days are awesome! They still provide great mid bass, many people run them, i just felt like making sure i got the extra bass from the 6x9s.
