KM2 vs. Trail Grappler

Which of these tires would you guys prefer to run? Pros and cons? thanks

 

Most of this will be parroting spec sheets. Very few people on here have experience with both. The KM2 is certainly a proven tire...the trail grappler less so mainly because it's newer. Either will do fine for you as long as you have the traction aides (i.e. lockers) to go with them.

 

i would do the trail grappler, those are killer, didnt have em in the size i needed, so had to settle for another tire.....

cant go wrong with the KM2's, both are good from what ive read from reviews....

alot of ppl on run the KM2's, i seen a couple trail grapplers but not as much

i havent had either so i cant really stand behind one over the other

 

Im hoping that Nitto designed the trail grapplers much like they did the terra grappler. Those tires lasted. I know both are MT and that I will most likely get less mileage out of them. Just sort of curious as to which will last longer. I would be going with the KM2 in a 285/70r17 or the Trail Grappler in a 295/70r17. Right now on online tires the KM2's are 900 and the Trail Grapplers are 946. Wish I could throw them both on there and see what they look like. haha dam i hate making these decisions ...

 

My only complaint on the km2's is the road noise. From what I hear the tg tires are much much easier to live with on a daily basis but the traction on km2s is pretty awesome.

 

Between the two, my personal and professional opinion is BFG. The Nitto's are a much softer rubber compound. Softer compounds typically don't last as long. I know from professional expirience that the BFG's will last 40k minimum with on/off roading combination. Any other questions, feel free to PM, and best of luck in your decision.

 

This exactly. I have experience with both and the TG is a much better daily road tire, and quieter. The km2 is built for mud and that's where it performs best.

 

Im trying to pull the trigger on the KM2's or Trail grapplers on Monday...so undecided. Please help. leaning toward trail grappler..main thing I want is tread life but dont want an all terrain, just not agressive enough

 

I had the KM2s and loved them on my 05 but I think ill go with the trail grapplers on the 2010 just to try something new

 

grapplers are pretty sick looking, I have seen a few people with em, but you can never go wrong with the KM2's either. goodluck on your desicion

not a lot of people have the trail grappler, i got them a year ago when they came out, have 15k on them and they are doing great, here's a little review i wrote of them a while back

wow, lots of replies thanks! Now i'm thinking that the trail grapplers will weigh roughly 10lbs more each than the bfg km2's. Nitto's website does not show tire weights but since toyo owns nitto I looked up the toyo mt's which weigh 9 lbs heavier each than the bfg both in the same size 265/70/17. Therefore im thinking better gas mileage with the BFG's. or...I could go to a 285/70/17 duratrac..i dunno. I wanna get still decent gas milage and i fee like if I go to a 285/70/17 it will drop more than just with a 265/70/17.


So... any advice on 285's or stick with 265's? I have 1.75" lift on front with OME 883 coils. So im thinkin 265/70's are my best bet..any opinions as far as gas milage and tire weights or what size tire I should do? thanks

also I ordered tundra 17" wheels for it..the tundra/sequoia wheels...they have a bit more offset than the stock 17's...

 

I heard MTR's wear quickly from the local tire shop and some other people..more so than the km2's. surprised you say to go with them. they actually make a rare and awesome size in the goodyear wrangler mtr, a 275/70/17.which would be a good size for me. humm anyone else think I could get good tread life from the MTR's? I wanna get at least 35k out of em

 

I have KM2s and i love them. They preform amazingly. and i dont think the road noise is that bad at all, not compared to my old good year wrangler tires, those things howled.

 

wish they made duratracs in 275/70..I would get them..that would be fairly light weight tire and a good size.very few tires in that size..like a big 32x11 basically. 32.4x11

 

I am a BFG fan myself, i used to have the older muds on my 4runner. So hard to make a decision ughha.
