Leer Trilogy X2T

I was all set to get the BAKFlip MX4 until I discovered the Leer Trilogy X2T today at my local topper dealer. It seems quite nice and I like the features, especially the latching system (no cables) and not losing any bed height.

Is anyone using this tonneau cover? I'd love to hear about your experiences, any reviews or other recommendations. Thanks!

How much did it cost you?

 

$849 plus tax installed. Hope I like it.
Was going with the other brands offered- Bakflip MX4 & G2, Undercover Ultraflex but around here- thieves have figured out how to open the cover even with tailgate locked by grabbing the wire w/ a coat hanger. I liked the looks & operation of the Leer using a side by side comparison. I called, will be Friday.

 

You got me wanting one now.

 

What made me want it was how easy it is to remove from truck. Seconds & no tools. Goes back on just as easy & no realignment needed. That was a big deal to me. My appt is 3pm tomorrow.

 

I’m home w/ the new top. I love it! Fits well, multiple gaskets to seal from weather. Most of these covers look short to me. This one fits like a glove. It does use the Toyota side rails to mount but not a deal breaker for me. It might sit a little higher than the others. I got inside & wife closed it up, no light coming in anywhere. Interior 3 LED on each side, very bright! Has a pinch type sliding channel latch that can be opened from either side of bed, and all the gaskets. Even rail has a seal that contacts in 4 different places. A well thought out cover. Installers said the BAK & Undercover come back for leaks all the time, they have never had one of these come back for a water leak.

@Steves55, is your truck a long bed? I'm asking because your cover hides the third brake light when open all the way. I was hoping not to cover the third brake light with whichever cover I buy. My guess is that if yours is a long bed that the short bed cover probably won't cause this issue.

 

The Leer dealer told me that you had to remove 2 bolts at the front (with a wrench or ratchet) in order to remove the cover. Is this not the case??

 

He’s wrong. Just the latches. Maybe the earlier model.

No. The new rails covers the stock rails up. Only brand that retains the rails that I know of is the Backflip. Some brands have spaces between mounts to use the factory rail but not this one.

 

Love the cover. 0 regrets. I don’t use the rail anyway so no loss for me. I’ll try & get a photo of the rail.

 

Mine is the long bed. If I have stuff in bed that required to open cover & stand it up at cab, chances are whatever I was hauling would hide it too. Not a deal breaker IMO.

Good point, thanks for the reply. Could always consider installing a trailer hitch third brake light if it was a big enough issue.
