Lets talk tuning...

Hahaha ^^^^ yeah it does get expensive fast!! I just want something that sounds good when i turn it up. No distortion, no boom and sizzle, just good clean sound from all speakers when its loud.

 

I got into IASCA SQ comps at about 18 or so. I never went crazy with it, but it was a lot of fun. I'd like to start doing it again. Not sure I care for the way the categories have changed, but would be fun nonetheless.

 

What I'm saying is that that's all fine and dandy, but when you post up any sort of technical knowledge on here or technical questions, rarely is it met with legitimate technical responses and solutions.

 

Low numbers are for bass, subs are good up to about 80hz-100hz i would say... Mids are 100hz - 5500hz, tweeters are 5500 and above.

What is your audio setup? What speakers and amps are you using?

 

I got a Pioneer AVIC8000NEX running wire to a Memphis Audio 4 channel 4x45 bridged amp. Those drive two Kicker CS654 coaxial speakers and two Rockford Fosgate T2TS tweeters in the front, tied in parallel using the front two channels, and my Rockford Fosgate Punch P1 8" SVC sub is bridged in the rear channels, basically turning this amp into a 3 channel.

The rear speakers have been deleted.

The AVIC unit has a 13 band EQ.

Yeah i think i can filter out who know what they are talking about and who doesnt. Just got off the phone with hybrid-audio, they agree with not running 2 drivers at the same frequency, also they gave me a good cross over point for my tweeters. I may look into getting a mic to help with the tuning. I mean shit i spent this much money on a system to make it sound good, i might as well get its full potential!

I could take it to a shop but that is expensive.... hybrid said they charge $300 to tune and it takes them 2-3 hours. Could be worth it though, will have to check prices at a couple local shops.

 

I wouldn't run two drivers at the same frequency myself. If we are refferring to basically driving two speakers on a singular channel that would be potentially damaging to the speakers when for example the audio track demands usage of the left or right channel only, they are both trying to play the same thing at the same time, just doesn't sound like a good thing.

 

Set the gain using a mulitmeter. To find out how many volts to push out to your speakers you will use a simple equation... (desired rms wattage) x (ohm load of speakers) = (#), find the square root of (#) and that is that amount of volts you should be pushing to your speakers. This is key to prevent distortion.. then set your crossovers.

It was quicker than I expected

 

Ok so i have never heard of these speakers, however they are moderately priced... what would you compare the sound to? Any particular brand that they come close too? Hybrid Audio said they have 140 world championships on their speakers, one reason i decided they were a trusted manufacturer.

 

It's actually not distortion that concerns me. Audibly speaking this setup sounds really nice even into maximum volumes. I'm just trying to figure out what to set each slider on the EQ at to get the best sound out of it (fine tune it basically).

Awww i see. Well i think that stage is where you have to take into a shop, or you tune it to what you want/prefer. Every vehicle will be different, even if its the same make an model, they are different. I use an RTA (Real time analyser), free app in the app store, to see where i have peaks and shallows to even them out. You should have a flat line as best as possible across all frequencies.

 

It won't all be in for a few days, but I've been using the Flutes for almost a couple months now. The Flutes are dreamy. They're nice & warm, very clear and transparent, make lots of bass & nice imaging. FR seems pretty smooth without EQ. I don't have a direct comparison, but they are often confused with much more expensive drivers.

The M25 I haven't listened to yet, but I've heard quite a few people describe it as the best tweeter they've ever heard.

I have an RTA analyzer as well. I don'tknow how to use i but I know the level is not flat at any volume for sure.

 

Nice! after talking to hybrid i am going to play with the crossovers today. They said their tweeters are good from 5200Hz and up, so im going to see how they do. I talked to him about spacing out crossover points to avoid the "hump" but he said they do not do that and backed it up by saying they have won 140 world championships. So..... we will see what happens
