Light wiring help needed

Awaiting reciept of a 7" Trek Light bar and two Trek Light spot lights.

I plan to mount all behind the grill with a switch to the 7" and a switch to the two spots.

This is all new to me so any help on the following:

1: Materials I need
2: Tips for wiring
3: Wiring diagram

If you use that fuse block you do not need the first item listed. In fact, I wouldn't use that first item listed at all. As for where to mount it, just find a place in the engine bay that is up high and dry, probably on the firewall. You are probably going to want it mounted to the same side as the battery to keep wire runs short, so try to find a place on that side for it.

You need two relays, two switches, and some wire, in addition to the fuse box you have listed.

You can buy a pre-built harness which saves a lot of work and could also be cheaper than building your own. If you go this route you are stuck with whatever switch comes with the kit and it may be worth it for you to piece together your own harness to get the switch you want. For a pre-built kit, search around for an accessory light wiring harness or similar on Ebay/Amazon/etc.

You will need a 12v rocker switch for each circuit (2 total). Many people like the Daystar switch but any rocker switch will work:

You then need two relays. I would recommend 30amp relays even though you dont need that much power capability. They are common, cheap, easy to find, and reliable. Here is a 5 pack for $5:

Now just get some 12v wire and wire it all in according to the diagram.

If you want one switch for both lights get a double throw switch. Up can be wired to the spot lights and down can be wired to both the spots and bar (or another combination of your choosing).

Look for a switch that has an On/Off/On as an option. I know otrattw makes some.

Subd i have to wire my jasper pods and i also bought thier wiring harness. Im just going to follow above diagram, order a blue sea fuse block, 100 amp breaker and i should be good to go.

 

I want to do this but with my Halo's but also I want it wired to a ignition 12v. Can someone show me how? And yes I want to run my halos on a switch so they can be on when I want them too vs having them spliced in the parking lights. Thanks.

 

If you bought the wiring harness it is plug and play. Hook the red to battery +, black to battery - and you are all done. Wire up the pods to the two connectors and run the switch into the cab. It comes with the relay, fuse, everything. Feel free to email if you have any questions with the install.

 

If I understand correctly, this is what you want:

Scenario 1: Headlights on, Halos on.
Scenario 2: Headlights off, switch off, halos off.
Scenario 3: Headlights off, switch on, halos on.


If that is correct, this is pretty simple to do. I would run a separate relay. See attached diagram.

 

Sweet thanks. Yeah I want to be able to have my halo on when I want too plus my alarm when I set it the corner lights blink and I don't want my halo tied to that and it to blink when I set my alarm. Now just need to get the relays and parts and tap into a 12v ignition source. Thank you.

 

Lastly what is a better way? Tap into a 12v ignition source or use a " add a circuit" fuse to the fuse box?

 

They are both good and bad. Simplicity - add a circuit.

Factory look - Tap into a circuit, not with t-taps, but with a proper wiring job.

Both will be reliable if done right.

I just finished putting up my HID 75w 9" from Australia. i got all my stuffs from auto zone. here is what you'll need for the set up:

3 wires, red white and black.
1 stick switch.
1 relay.
1 fuse breaker.
1 20A fuse.
some female and male connectors.
1 bag of cable tie (zip tie).
1 wire cutter or wire stripper.
now you're set.
save some bucks, do it yourself is a lot cleaner, no wires laying around and you know how and where you want it.

 

You are the man! Easy as 1,2,3!

 

Can I ask what all of that cost?

Just pricing it on on Autozone and just these three items:
1 stick switch.
1 relay.
1 fuse breaker. (in-line, not a breaker)

Cost more than a full wiring harness.

 

for what i lists could cost you around 65 bucks but if you do it yourself
and somethings not working right you know what to do and where to replace
if decide to go with a full line of pre-assembly harness sometimes they don't work or work but not up to your expectations and you dont know what to do other than returning your merchandise. i had bad experienced with lightforce harness, no power ran pass the relay i end up losing money for return shipment and restocking fee. crapped. since then i never look back to preassembly wires and harness ever. and this is my story, yours might be different story who knows.
