I’ve been searching the forums for an answer with no luck, so I apologize if this has been covered already.

Just put brand new KO2s on my 2018 Sport, 255/75/17s. That size was only available in a C load rating. I’ve read that E rates tires are overkill for the Tacoma. Anyone off-road with C load tires? Any failures? Is there a significant disadvantage when compared to E rated KO2s?

Doesn’t matter much now since the tires are on my truck, but just wanted to see if anyone had some input. I don’t do anything crazy, but the truck is off the pavement 60% of the time, and I do a lot of work with it, in addition to camping and light wheeling. Thanks!

I’ve wheeled for 14+ years on C-load tires in the rocky trails of the PNW mountains and never had an issue. C-loads are far better for a daily driver, offering lower weight, better power/mpg/braking/ride. KO2s offer reinforced sidewalls that are stronger than basic sidewalls. I run that exact tire, 255/75/R17 KO2. You can also get C-load KO2s in other sizes though.

I've got them on my Taco and 4Runner. Obviously not going to be as strong as E range, but I have had no problems, punctures, cuts anything for 2 years. I usually air down to 18-20, and I'm comfortable doing it. Great set of tires.

Ran 35/12.50/15 BFG C rated on my FJ40 (pushing 5k loaded) and never had any issues other than the occasional sharp root going through a sidewall. Lots of Rubicon & Moab stuff with no real issues. Aired down to 12-15psi much of the time. Would have run LT C rated on my Taco, but almost impossible to find 265/75/16's in anything but D & E which are like riding on bricks. So I went to P rated on the Taco. It sees more desert and fire road stuff vs rocks, but haven't had an issue with them either as of yet.

All of my tires are C range. Currently running 285x70x17 Pirelli Scorpion MT. You won't have any problems. Those are great tires you bought.

Let's put it this way, I see quite a number for for sale threads for tires for members who went E rated and regretted it, vs those who wish they got E rated from the get-go.
