After some warranty work of the rear main seal and timing cover I started experiencing some very loud ticking. I pump regular 87 fuel and tried 91 but no change.

Most threads/videos I see on this are about the fuel pump and don’t sound anything like this. I found a video with the exact noise I’m hearing. Anyone have any info?

Reminds me of a hydraulic lifter gone south, but it must be something else. Never heard noises like coming from any of my toyota trucks...even my 2020 v6.

I'd be concerned of internal oil pressure leak from tech error installing the cover. I'd have them take a look at that.

Sounds like it is coming from the AC compressor. Does it make the noise with AC off? That and the belt tensioner make the same noises when they go south.

nope but that’s a good idea, the sound comes and goes. But when it’s there I’ll give it a shot!

Ive tried turning off the ac while the noise is there and no luck. Sounds like it’s coming from the driver side rear too. I saw somewhere, can’t remember where that it was the catalytic converter on the driver side.

Get an automotive sound stethoscope from an auto parts store. You’ll be able to pinpoint where the noise is coming from

hmmm maybe exhaust manifold, you can inspect that visually...but it does skip a few beats like a pulley going bad. maybe do a fresh oil change and one of those engine treatments, wont hurt if its something like lifters. take note if worse when you first start truck or after its been warmed up for 20 minutes. rule out the less serious stuff. someone will figure it out.

just stop driving it.. stop running it too... tow it back and have them look at it... if you keep running it, they might blame you for not bring it back when it started happening...i work in the automotive field and i know they do play the blame game...but it almost sounds like exhaust leak. (not tighten)

Imo, the ticking noise is more like a hammer metal to metal. I don't hear anything close to it when idling on my 2020 v6...ever. I agree, don't keep driving it, rather have it go to the dealer asap.

you can also use a long screwdriver like us old timers and put it up to the ear and the other end on the engine...

You mean a long screw driver? put the tip on the part and the handle in your ear.

EDIT, I see someone else said the same thing.
