I never cared for snorkels, or had a desire to get one, until I went deeper than planned, and had to pull my sparkplugs out, trailside yesterday and pump out some water.

I know a few people were hacking up snorkels for different models and whatnot, so whats the cleanest option anyone has come up with, that doesn't look like a lunchbox glued to your fender?

Did you go to Richloam?

If you want a low profile one look into the land cruiser retrofit one.

Personally I like the big honking ARB factory fit one, but this one is probably the lowest profile one that still fits without looking retrofitted.

I wonder what it would look like colour matched? I hate the look of them too, but can see the advantage for dusty roads.

Close, Citrus. That's not too bad. I just hate how they all go so far up the fenders.

water will get into seals that grease is not exposed

    if U have the axles.......transfer case.........trans vented correctly ( few 4wheelers )

    electrical components & connections (corrosion).............get wet !!!!!!

otherwise water deeper than axles pose MANY issues................drivetrain

    Citrus is flooded right now?

I don't remember there being water (least not more than some puddles) the times I've gone.

Shortest snorkel I know of is the Airflow Snorkel.

Beyond that there's always custom jobbos lile the cowl snorkel.

Diffs and T case are vented. I'm aware of the issues water can cause. Unfortunately in FL water can get deeper than you thought, pretty quickly, so if I can avoid a bent rod just a little bit, I will.

I wouldn't say it's flooded, but there was a good bit of water there. I generally avoid richloam.just because I hate mud!

Richloam wasn't too muddy actually, very sandy but not sticky mud for the most part, or at least there was enough water to wash it all off as you went. I get more actual tacky clumping mud on my rig at citrus, most of the water at Richloam is still and clear (don't drink) and we saw some gators too.

But I wouldn't go back to Richloam as I ended up falling into a buggy track near the end got stuck and had to shop vac out about 5 gallons of water from my carpet and air it out over a weekend.

Truck was extra humid for a month, got damp rid buckets and all that no mold and everything has been good since but it was a pain in the ass.

I have determined water crossing when required are good but after testing my Snorkel on that trip I'm certainly not going looking for water to cross.

I also extended my trans and transfer breathers up high into the engine bay near the air filter box.

I try not to ever go in water deeper than my sliders.

a piece of pvc or of alength to gauge water depth is wise

The breathers are extended to a safe place. Driving over rocks and such isn't risk free either. I built the truck to have fun with. I'm ok with the risks, but I'll negate them where I can.

This was a couple years ago, we were the only ones there, aside from a couple rando's like the 80's F150 buried up to his frame @Taco No Baka yoked out with his old OGT wolverine like it was nothing.

Boy did that get down played. By now that story should be I yanked a not running D9 Caterpillar Bulldozer out, lol. It was actually a early 90's F-350 SuperCab LWB with a 7.3L Powerstroke Diesel. Probably out weight the OGT by 3x with the big steel bumpers he had on it.

I had a thread earlier looking for a low profile option. I stumbled upon this TJM Airtec but the catch is that it is meant for a 2010+ 4Runner. I posted to see if anyone has tried to make it work on a 2nd gen Tacoma since the body lines are pretty similar but no one could give me a straight answer. I may end up as a guinea pig to see if this works.

I don’t really feel like that’s a test if the other rigs can do it without one. If you wanna test it as a “snorkel” you gotta get the water up over the hood where a normal truck would hydro lock otherwise it’s just a desert air and take.
