Low speed grinding noise

New board member. Bought a 2013 Taco 4wd April 30. Two weeks later the belt breaks. Took it to mechanic and the alternator was bad and the belt that broke messed up the front crank seal. He go all that fixed.

Two days after getting it home it started making a weird grinding noise. Noise only happens when I pull in the driveway at slow speeds with the wheel turned or in reverse with the wheel turned. Only lasts for about 2 seconds and then it quits. Any ideas?

Also, mechanic noticed it didn’t have a front skid plate. Any suggestions on a skid plate for just regular road driving?

Welcome to the forum. Find your regional thread and ask in there if anyone has a stock skid laying around. You’ll most likely get it for free. As far as the noise, what size tires do you have? Are they larger than stock? Could just be it rubbing on some plastic.

I think the noise you’re hearing is the tire rubbing. I put 265 tires with deep tread on when I first bought mine and had the same issue in slow, sharp turns. Welcome to TW.

 

I second, or third the tires rubbing. I have the same size as you the catch every now and then at full lock or when tuning over the right bump. Seems to happen more in reverse.

You can also have someone else drive your truck into the driveway really slow so you can see how bad the rubbing is.

 

If you are still running the front mud flaps.
Check them for rub marks. You “usually” don’t see this issue until 265/75/16.
But as some have noted, there are some 70’s that will rub.
