Maintenance Schedule?

just wondering how well you guys follow your sugested maintenance schedules......

in my 01 mustang all i ever did was change the oil..... trany went out in 5 years..... never did one service to it, so i guess it was my own fault.

i've heard a lot people say "man i've had my toyota for x number of years and all i ever did was change the oil..... or i've put 300,000 miles on it and only changed the oil"

i think i should do some routine maint. on it, more than just oil changes, but is it really necessary to follow the book?

 

my dealer keeps track for me. then sends me a reminder of what is due and needed

 

Yes, it's why Toyota bothered to put the maintenance schedule in the owner's manual... it's for you to follow. But the choice is ultimately up to you.

 

Hey Jackson, that was one of the reasons I went with Toyota, but our newer trucks don't have the same powertrains so I am going to follow the schedule to the best of my wallets ability. One thing we don't have to worry about is the timing belt, for we have a chain.

 

All i ever did on the beamer was change the oil and the timing belt once. it ran like a top. One reason i went with toyota is because of their reliability. i dont want to have to constantly change and top off fluids. i expect to be able to neglect it (to a certain degree) and have it keep working on me.

 

I follow it.... for the most part. Sometimes I over-do it, pending on what it is. I'll often crawl underneath the truck just to look around for anything 'odd' (leaks, etc).

I hate the winter, because I don't *keep up with things* like I do in the spring/summer. There are times when I'm busy and can't get to things and they are *let go* longer than they should.....but I'm aware of that and take care of things when I can.

im exactly the same way. but,as i've said before, i love doing my own work on stuff, so it all gets done as close to "on time" as i can get it.

 

I changed oil in my 2.7 3rzfe 3,000 to 5,000 and have had AWSOME luck with my engine 263,000 also (no synthetic oil ever) Castrol GTX and Lucus in the summer since 50,000 no leaks yet!!!!!
