Hello everyone,, So I finally got myself a Tacoma, 2019 sport :D .. I have been wanting one for many years but for one reason or another I have not been able to, plus I had to talk my wife into letting me get one LOL..

anyhow I am trying to learn how to get my system to automatically read any text message that should come in, and then be able to reply via voice to text, hense the hands free I thought I had with this. I noticed that if I get a text I have to hit the read button. (which she will then read aloud to me), The first time I thought I had to push the talk button and tell her to read it to me but for some reason it just would not do it.. and then When I hit the talk button and tell her to send a text to "contact", it does show who I am trying to send a text to but I can't tell it what to say, seems there are only pre-set wording text messages.. is there a way to make this work for what I am wanting ?

Also it seems I have andriod auto on my phone, I was under the impression I had to use this but someone told otherwise.. any help to this new owner would be greatly appreciated !!

My understanding is to use voice commands you would need to do it through android auto with the phone plugged into the usb port. At this time the only way i see reading texts is exactly the way you are. Press Read and listen to the message, once you have listened you can press reply and use voice to type what you want.

    Welcome!

AA is a forced download on Android, but it does not work with the 2019 head unit.

IMHO, the Messages feature was more distracting than the phone app. I turned it off.

As noted above, the 2019s do not have AA or CP.

Good to know,, so I won't worry about the app,, I do know though when someone sends me a text I have the option to push "read" and she reads the text to me, so back to my first question is there a way to have her read it without me hitting the button? and part 2 is there a way to reply? it looks like I should be able to but I think I am doing something wrong.

There is no way that I know of without pushing a button.

To reply, your only option are some pretty crappy standard replies that take took me too much fumbling to use. I believe you can edit the standard replies, but I don't see anything really working more or less universally other than "Thanks. I'm driving." :D

The automagic replies on my phone are better and less distracting for me.

I have 2019 TRD Sport as well and the standard head unit (as well as JBL) doesn't have Android Auto/Apple Car Play. On the text messages, this is new info for me. I didn't even know we have that feature so I will check it out

You have to go into your BT settings on your phone and allow Text Messages access:
