Looking good! Mind providing some details about the build? D2S's? What kind of shrouds did you use?
And how was the build process? Anything you would recommend for someone doing this in the future?

I'll be doing my 3rd retrofit this weekend. I picked up another spare set of oem headlamps to work on so i can take my time with it. Its all in the prep work. I ordered a roll of morimoto retrorubber grey butyl to reseal the headlamps to look stock as possible. There are plenty of how to guides and more at the www.retrofitsource.com There is a continuous group buy on the complete kit in the group buy forum. Browse the retrofit show off thread to get some ideas on how you would like them, i.e. paint schemes, halos, ect. I have the D2S 4.0 with apollo 1.0 shrouds. My plan is to paint the housings black chrome, stock bowl, and tint the amber reflector. Good luck.

 

Thanks for all the great info. Right now I'm in the process of trying to find a 2nd set of OEM headlights, so I won't have any down time with my truck. I think I'm going to leave the housing stock chrome, but haven't decided for sure yet.
I tried searching for the retrofit show off thread, but couldn't find it. Mind providing me with a link?

 

I know a guy who can provide a full turn-key, plug n play solution for those who don't want to take the time to do it themselves. Does great work with great reviews.

Im getting ready to retro my buddies stock lights. I have only messed with spyder lights that had a clean channel when I was putting butyl rubber in to re-seal. My question is did you have to clear out all the old sealant on the back portion of the light before putting in new sealant or did you just leave it? Im thinking if I were to seal with new butyl rubber in with the original sealant, that it might be too much sealant in the housing channel? Anyway they look good man.

 

I've seen that particular retrofit look. All stock with just the projectors. Looks uber oem.

I would remove the old butyl before adding a new bead.

I like this paint scheme I jus did last night

 

Man that is absolutely filthy, really digging that. Now I'm starting to re-think about painting them, especially since that's my truck color. Mind telling me what paint you used for that scheme?

Eh I know its pricey...but I think you get what you pay for.

 

This is very true. When new OEM housings are $500 and using quality morimoto products the price rises

Trust me man, I feel you, I'm in the same boat you are. I have perfectly fine factory OEM's in my truck now, but I'm buying a 2nd set of OEM's to do the retrofit for no down time, and to have a back up pair in case something goes wrong and I need to put the factory ones back in.

I could be wrong, but I think you have the option of sending him your OEM's currently on your truck. But then you're looking at a few weeks of down time and not being able to drive your truck. Really I think it comes down to time and convenience vs money.

 

I know many buy a second set of lights when doing theirs. If you are conservative on the oven temp and willing to wait longer, I think the risk is MUCH less to hurt anything. I retro'd mine with just the set of headlights I had over an afternoon. If you do your homework in watching some basic videos, it shouldn't take long at all. I had to make a custom template for my new projectors since the lights I used already had their own projectors which were slightly off from direct bolt on. For OEM applications, you can simply bolt projectors in place in a few minutes.
