MPG Question

Ok guys, I know there are a lot of threads out there about MPG. However, I couldnt find any that I could relate to. So I thought I would ask anyways.

So, I have a 2006 DC TRD Sport. Has a 3" Lift with AAL in the rear and Nitto Terra Grappler Tires (285/65 R18). I am only getting about 16.5mpg average. Is that normal for a lifted Tacoma with larger tires. I normally am driving right at 2000rpm's. I dont mash on the trottle at all. I read all these guys are getting like 21 mpg and I am like WTF!!! AHAH! I lifted my truck and got the tires the day I bought it. So, I dont know what the MPG's were stock. So, I am wondering if the trucks with the same type of setup are getting close to what I am getting as fas as MPG's.

Let me know any insight you might have.

 

My guess is the tires and lift affecting..

 

yeah man, with that lift, and the weight of those wheels and tires, it sounds about right.

 

I am averaging about 17.5. I have 3' lift with 285/70/R17 on a 07 DC 4x4 V6.
On long trips I have made 21.4

 

Whats funny....

Is that I changed the oil about 2 weeks ago and noticed it was time to change my air filter, since it was dirty as hell. Instead of replacing the paper filter, I got a K&N drop in. After putting that in, I lost about 0.4 MPG. HMMMM....

 

hey man, on tests, the k&n actually does cause a minor mileage drop. you may want to pick up an afe pro dry s..........as some have gained 2 to 3 mpg with that and the secondary air filter removed.

 

Where do I get those, and how much?

 

actually, there was a group buy here not too long ago.....you may still be able to get in on that and still get a discount like the ones on the gb did. price was pretty decent too if i remember correctly.

 

Don't forget to adjust mpg calculations for the larger tire size.

I was running 285/75 16s and the odometer readings would give me 16-17mpg calculations. With a scangauge calibrated for the +7% caused by the larger tires I was reading 17-18mpg consistently per tank.

 

Off-topic, but how do you like the Tuff Country 3" lift? Mine is being delivered today - so I am stoked.

I have checked the MPH on the dash goin down the freeway with a GPS my friend had and the MPH were the exact same. I think it was adjusted when Toyota had it for a day. HMMMM.....

I'm getting 14mpg... I have always gotten 14mpg.... Why?

 

I averaged 16 mpg out of my 05 TRD Sport Access cab. I'm not sure why it was so bad. I'm hoping the new one gets better.

So the MPH could be acurate, but the ODO could still be off (Slow)?

 

I know the speedo with stock tires was consistently 3mph higher than radar displays for me, but I never had a GPS to verify mileage on the odometer. My car reads 3mph faster too. Never tried comparing mileage though.

 

Ok, I will need to get the GPS out again and have a look. Thanks! I hope I am getting slightly better gas milage than I think. That would be awesome!
