Anyone have part numbers for the mufflers they put in (flow master...etc.) and a description of requirements to install?

Was it a direct replacement? Just cut stock out and weld new in or was install more involved?

Hoping this will help me and others in choosing the correct muffler for them. Yes I have seen all the muffler threads but not much info on what's involved.

Maybe Tooter will chime in and lend some of his experience here?

If you could also include gen and cab/box info so we can all be confident that we are ordering the right parts that would be great.

cut and weld, you may need some straight piping to fill in the gap from having a smaller muffler. I would go with maybe .25" bigger than stock on the inlet, outlet due to the welding it down. just look at the inlet, outlet sizes get a 2.5" for both (stock has a 2.25" piping I think) and cut and weld away.

I'm totally fascinated by exhaust design, so I'll be happy to help.:)

No matter which muffler you choose, the right size is 2 1/2" in and out. Your stock exhaust pipe is a metric size of 2 3/8" and is already just the right size for your engine. So if you go to larger diameter pipe, you'll give up some low end torque in exchange for top end horsepower.

A decent muffler shop can make just about any muffler fit your truck. As you can see here, your stock muffler is a straight line...

...however the outlet is offset lower than the inlet. So if you got a center in/center out muffler, the exhaust shop can adjust the exhaust pipe to fit it.

I had an exhaust pipe made to exit a hole in the rear bumper, so it really didn't matter which one I got.

If you choose a Flowmaster, pick one they recommend for 4 or 6 cylinder engine. Look for the little red checks at the bottom of the chart.

Tooter are you using center inlet/center outlet?

Wife has my truck today and trying to round up a muffler without being able to see or measure mine.

    Thanks for the help!
