I picked up this tacoma for 8500 shipped to my house. It had some unexplained front end damage with chunks of tree all over the engine bay.. when it arrived without a windshield it had been towed through a few hundred miles of rain (vented in this thread https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/shipping-damage-return-truck.564534/).

Hopefully i didn't bite off more than i can chew with this one. I am no mechanic, just mechanically inclined and like to tinker. I"m in no hurry with this so don't expect daily or even weekly updates...

I haven't done too much on it yet, except order parts. Here's a handful of pictures of the damage:IMG_0465.jpg

I did replace the valve cover, and pulled a handful of broken plastic pieces out of that area. I also disassembled the intake manifold to find pieces of plastic and timber had made it further than i had hoped. the cylinder with the broken manifold above it had 2 large pieces of plastic wedged between the valve and cylinder so tight it was hard to pry them out. hopefully the valve didn't bend. I'd imagine any smaller pieces of timber or plastic that made it through would burn out? we'll see...

is this oil normal atop the intake plenum? I couldn't believe how dirty the intake plenum was on the inside as well as the fuel injectors themselves..

Also, anybody who can tell me which 6 fuel injector color wires at the 6 wire plug go to which 6 colors at the other end of the plug (all on passenger side) would truly be an godsend...

Good luck man. All my cars before my Tacoma we all auction bought, it made sense at the time as I have family that deal with salvage rebuilds(frame/bodywork). Over all at this point it’s just too much headache. But there are definitely deals to be had.
The worst part of this whole ordeal was dealing with selling a salvage titled cars

    Mostly stuff I built.
The oil in the intake you are seing is why people are installing catch cans on the PCV system on their trucks. It will really gunk things up over time.

Unknown lift, maybe 2" I don't know how to ID it, and would rather set it back to stock.
Will follow for interest, lotta plastic bits broken, but replaceable. That aluminum cross member runs about $500 but it looks undamaged. Also will send to rebuilder who can perhaps tell me more about what is damaged here besides rad/AC condensor, and the rest of the obvious pieces.

I am guessing no air bags deployed. Any suspension or frame issues here? What year is this, and how many miles? 2WD/4WD and what model outside of being an extended cab?

On top of all that mess, you’re going to put a a core support, apron and roof on that thing?

Turn it into a Jeep-like toy......rag top and roll bars, removable doors, 37’s.....that be unique!

I vote for a front end swap with a 5th Gen 4Runner. Good luck with the rebuild
