It could def help with some specifics of what you might want this truck to achieve in the long term...towing, gas mileage, capacity, etc. I have a 2012 Taco myself and Im pretty content with it. I went with a 12' as it was the first year they had given the taco a facelift and when I was looking at a new ride it was a little cheaper being a year old. Might not hurt in your case to shop in the 12-15 year if you arnt too hell bent on the newest features. Again, without knowing what you want out of the truck its hard to point you in the right direction though.

Given the specs it sounds like you're asking about a 3rd gen. Several people on here have traded in their 4 banger for a v6. For a few grand more you could upgrade to an sr5 and get a v6. if your budget is tight I would look at late 2nd gens. You should be able to get a TRD in that price range if you shop around and buy private party.
