Hi All, I have a 2014 4c SR5 - original battery was needing a boost to start. last time i gave it a boost the check engine light came on along with the 'track off' indicator.

I changed the battery and now it wont start - not even a click.
I have dash board light, radio and remote key fob all working.
Dash board shows check engine light and battery light on.

    Any advice?

    Note
    - yes i took negative off first/ positive on first
    - tried locking and unlocking with fob in case of anti theft
-tried turning the key 5 times as a reset.....(read from another post)

I'll guess a bad connection at the battery or the battery ground.

Did you put it in backwards? It happens

Check the 50 ampere AM1 Fuse, the 30 ampere AM2 Fuse and Alt Fuses. Use a meter or a test lamp. These fuses are also bolted in place.

It is common for these fuses to blow if the battery was inadvertently connected backwards ( even for a second or two...).

Appreciate it, battery was not connected backwards - even left the caps on to ensure. negative on the outside positive on the inside.

I don't suppose you left those caps on when connecting the cables back up did you?

So I would check the grounds by the battery… kind of old school but if you can jump the starter or try a different battery it might help lead in a direction

Thanks, i did try jumping the new battery with no success. I was thinking that i might put the old battery back and try to jump it as i was doing this before. You're right if it works it will be telling

Was the replacement battery dead / flat / malfunctioning?

    minor tweaks
The order in disconnecting your battery cables is a safety thing and has zero to do with the vehicles electrical operation later on.

Wouldn’t be the first time a new battery was DOA.

Got to start with basics. You were having problems starting the truck with the original battery and with a new battery the starting problem is worse. It probably isn’t the battery but I’d still start by checking the battery voltage. If it’s less than 12.0 it’s a battery problem or it needs charging. Then make sure the battery cables are tight. Next check the ground connection and the starter/solenoid connection. Make sure they are tight and are not corroded. If corroded clean them up, tighten them up and try again. Also check the fuses.

Bought a battery from a well known autoparts store and had this exact thing happen.
