New FS Destination LE's

Hello I am finally replacing my stock AT20's with some FS Destination LE's. I was wondering if anyone was running these on thier taco and what they thought about them. Every website had great ratings for these tires and I got a great deal so I couldn't pass them up. Pictures on the truck would be cool too. I will post some when I get them installed tomorrow. Thanks

 

I can't believe that no one on here is not running these tires on thier taco. Nice tire so far, nice tread depth and design. I am checking mileage to see how they compare to the stock AT20's.

Nice! I'll bet you're happy to be rid of the Dunlops, I know I was! Wish I could help, I went with Coopers. I doubt you'll see a difference in MPG's with those, they're not an overly aggressive tire and should last you quite a while.

 

I ran these on my Tundra when I first moved up here to New England...ran up I 84 thru some SERIOUSLY heavy snow back in 05....and they ran GREAT...If I didn't want the more aggressive look of the A/T Destinations , I would be running the LE.

Great to hear. I don't expect the mileage to change much at all except the new "winter" gas mix may affect my 21mpg average anyway.

 

Heres a side profile of the truck with the new rubber. Looks pretty good IMO. I realized the dealer put the tires at 32psi so I think my mileage is going to be a little lower than normal. I am going to add some air today after work to get the fronts to 34 and rears at 32. I will keep posted on milegae.

Just filled up for the first time since I got the new tires. 20.4mpg mixed driving. I have a heavy foot too! Not to bad for a much better tire and winter gas. I just filled my front tires to 34psi and will see if it makes a difference next fill up.

 

Heres a pic of the Destinations after a dirty hunting trip on Saturday. Did very well, only used 4wd to climb the ledge face, 2wd worked in the mud!

 

I finally got a chance to drive in the snow today since I got my new tires. About 12" over night with no complaints at all with the new LE's. 2wd handled most of it with 4wd for the heavy stuff. A huge improvement over the stock dunlops.

 

I had a request to be a little more thorough on my review here, I will try my best.

Dry Pavement: Great. Low and high speed driving is great, no issues with 80+ mph cruising. Have no complaints for everyday driving, much better than stock AT20's.
Wet Pavement: Great. No losing the rearend under hard acceleration like the 30k mile AT20's. No hydroplaning issues on the highway at speeds of 80+.
Cornering: Good stability for a large sidewall tire and the high COG of the Tacoma. Seems to hold onto inperfections in road surfaces up here in New England. Seems to drift to the left or right at high speeds when the lanes of the highway are graded to the edge of the road.
Steering Response: It goes where you point it. Tire seems like its built strong with somewhat stiff sidewalls compared to the AT20's.
Snow: Limited use so far as I only have 2500 miles on these tires. Driving on the roadways is no problem in 2wd for light snow and it the Taco turns into a mountain goat with 4wd high. I tried some deep snow driving in a unplowed dirt parking lot with about 8"-10" of snow to really see what these could do last night. Level ground it was driving in 2wd any hills and 4hi went anywhere I wanted to go.
Ice: I personally do not think any tire is good for ice unless it is studded!
Offroad: Limited offroad use but some muddy dirt roads and logging trails were no problem in 2wd. Climbed a rocky pass while hunting in 4lo and it was a mountain goat.
Comfort: Overall comfort is unchanged from the AT20's, maybe a little stiffer as stated above but it is a truck!
Treadwear: No update on this yet as I only have 2500 miles on these bad boys.

I would rate this tire overall and 9 out of 10 for a all season truck tire compared to all on the market.

In this price range I do not think it can be beat if you drive mostly on the road with ocassional offroad treks.

I agree these are good tires. I have a set of 265/70/16's on my 2005 DCLB and as the OP said, for normal driving with a little light off-road they are hard to beat. I have had mine on since February and have put about 23,000 miles on them and they have held up well (still 8/32" tread - these start out at 13/32"). The only issue I had was that one of the tires had tread separation causing a "bouncy" ride and had to be replaced, but Firestone was good about taking care of it. Plus, when I bought mine, they were buy three get one free. In the past I have run Dueler HT's and Michelin LTX AT2's. Both are good tires, but the Michelins are $$$. For the money, I definitely recommend.

 

I have a quick update today after driving to work in a blizzard! We are getting hammered here in New England today and I had to come to work and didn't really mind actually. The Destination LE's are awesome in the snow for a all season tire. Had no problem driving down unplowed roads wwith 12"+ of snow and driving through and over snow 16"+ piles of snow was a breeze. A few pics are below.

 

Those look like a real nice set of tires. I am considering the Destination A/T for my next set of tires this spring when I take off my Yokahama Geolander IT winter tires. Is there a significant advantage to these tires over the A/T's? Like are they quieter and/or lighter, giving a little better milage? I would assume they would not take quite as much offroad abouse as the A/T tires.

 

Gregman, they are a great set of tires for what I do on a day to day basis. I "wanted" a set of A/T's but didn't really need them as I drive offroad maybe twice a month and in snow. So the payoff for an A/T over an all season tire did not make sense to me. The LE's are going to be less $, I am assuming less noise and provide better gas mileage due to less tread depth and design. This is assumed as I have not ran a set of destination A/T's before but a set of BFG A/T's were much louder on my moms explorer. It just didnt make sense to me for what I do with my truck to spend $100+ more for a set and loss a mile or two in gas mileage. Plus 10,000 more miles under warranty is nice too!
Depending on your driving conditions, style of driving and the frequency of offroad driving should determine what type tire you buy.
