12A3C065-5906-4053-940E-D81DC476C127.jpg Hello all, new to this forum today. I have a 2001 Tacoma 4 X 4 Step-Side that I drove off the show room floor 299,000 miles ago. It’s been a great rig. I have not always treated it right, but it’s held up. Now I find that in my upcoming retirement I want to finally modify the truck. I always said when the engine quits I would swap a Small V-8 into it.
Well, the engine won’t die, but I want that hot rod Tacoma before I DO.
So I will be undertaking the project of pulling my 3.4 and trans / transfer case out, and replacing with a 350ci / 410 hp /410 tq built crate engine from “Blue Print Engines / Trans will be a 4L65E Auto.
I am thinking body and bed off, remove the lift kit, and body lift spacers and set it back down lower. I have to lose that 4 x 4 front end and go std 2wd front end. As big as I can fit, (with stock rear end), Mickey Thompson’s under the flared fenders. Etc etc. having bed and body off, should make engine, trans swap a little easier, as well as access to suspension parts that will be upgraded. I will have many questions over the months it will take me to do this mostly by myself. Basically want to go from 4x4 to street/strip 2wd sleeper with headers, custom exhaust. So if anyone has ever undertaken such foolishness, share with me please. Any input and advice is welcome.
    Thanks

Sounds like ambitious plans but also that you know what you’re doing and what you want. Sounds pretty cool.

    Like, so many.
May be the first person I've heard wanting to go from a 4WD to 2 WD.
