2008 Tacoma double cab long bed
Hello all. New guy from Washington with a 2008 4x4 long bed double cab. Joined because I have a problem with the rear end. Dealership says she needs a whole new rear. It is a limited slip rear but it seems that the previous owner never changed the rear diff fluid. We bought the truck with 97,000 on it. I heard a noise then and changed the fluid and it continued. Has 134k on it now and I changed it again and it is worsening. Went with Mobile 1, 75-90 with LSD additive.

The lft wheel bearing also is starting some noise and the left axle seal is leaking some and getting oil on the brake shoes.

At any rate I'm looking at a probable total rear swap. What are my best options? Replace and stick with limited slip. Replace and go with non posi rear, replace with a rear that has the e-locker and obtain the wiring harness, switch and relays.

Not new to Toyotas, but new to this generation of Taco. I still have a 97 4Runner and had a 2004 Pre-Runner that we traded in for this one. So far I'm more impressed with my older Toyotas.

Welcome from OR. Can't help with figuring out which rear to go with, as I have an open. But, I am sure the other folks here can help you figure it out.
