Hello. I was directed to this forum by a friend of mine. I own a 2002 Tacoma with 130,000 miles. The reason I was directed here by my friend was because I had related a story to him about my truck. I told him that I had taked the truck to Pep Boys recently for an oil change and they declined to perform this saying that they were afraid to put my truck up on the lift as the frame was so rusted it might not be safe. I took the truck to the local Toyota dealership. Their eyes popped out when they saw the truck and said it was the second worse frame they had ever seen. They gave me a number to call to contact Toyota which I called. They said that the recall for the truck had ended and there was nothing they could do. The dealership highly advised me not to drive the truck home as one bump could snap the frame. I took it home anyway, very carefully. Did anyone here have a similar experience? Frankie.............in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey. Thanks guys.........

It's difficult to answer you. I always have done all work on my vehicles myself. I always check out the underside of them when working on them. The odd thing about this truck is that I never had to do ANY work on it since I owned it for almost 3 years. I had initially looked at the frame when I first bought it and didn't see or didn't have enough knowledge to notice structural problems. It now needs brakes and shocks which I was going to do when the weather breakes as I have to work outside. Since the cost of an oil change is so low, I have had it done at Pep Boys and they never mentioned anything unusual until the last time I went to have it done, which was last week when they refused to put it up on the lift. I'll be 67 in May and don't know if I can do a frame swap. The thing is, is it worth the trouble? What kind of a frame could I get for that year or similar years? What condition would they be in? Are there people out there that are looking for an engine and trans. in good condition with low miles? Not sure what road to take at this point..........Frankie

    Welcome to Tacoma World

I'd imagine a frame replacement is quite expensive to pay for yourself.

May be time to go vehicle shopping. :(
