Hey everyone, i am interested in buying some ballistic jesters for my 05 tacoma TRD sport. I plan on running the tires already on it 265/65R17 my question is this.. the only size i can get is 17x9, what offset do i need +12 or -12 to keep it as close to stock as possible.. I am ok with the tires sticking out farther as long as the stay within the flare... anyone who can help i thank you..

17x9 -12 offset will stick out passed the flares. I have a 0 offset 18x9 and they stick out quite a bit so the -12 would stick out about an inch more than mine I believe.

Check my build thread to see what a 0 offset looks like.

Stock is +40mm 7" wide IIRC. Offset is a measurement in millimeters from the center of the wheel. So a +18mm offset the center of the wheel will be 22mm farther out than stock, then the width of the wheel will stretch the tire a little. Short answer your tires will stick out roughly an inch over stock

That will sit in more than stock, and you'll possibly be rubbing the UCA. You should try to stay between +0 and +12.

EDIT: Calculated it, 8" +18 will sit basically the same as stock on the inside, and stick out 2" more than stock on the outside. Bottom line, you'll be fine with a +18 since you're staying with a stock tire.

I used to run a 9" +0 with 285's, and there was about 1/4" between the tire and UCA, and it sat completely flush with the fender.

You were flush with 0 offset and 285's on a 9" rims? How am I sticking out past the flares with 265's?

That's a great question, I don't know how yours could be so different. This is obviously hard to tell exactly since it's not straight on, but you can kind of tell that my tread didn't stick out.

Ya I'm not out huge but they do stick out.. I would have thought 285's would put them quite a bit out.

May be your BFG's since they have such broad shoulders. My wheels sat flush, the sidewall bulged out of the fender slightly, and the tread sat flush.

You said he would rub the UCA with +18mm offset. With 285s probably, with 265s no

No big deal, just making the OP understands and doesn't get the wrong info. A 8" wheel with +18mm offset is 5.21" backspacing. Stock backspacing is ~5.5", so with the stock tire size he should be no where near rubbing the UCA.

The jesters only stick out 6mm more than the XDs, thats about a 1/4" go with the jesters if thats what you like. You should be about flush with the fender flares. And with stock sized tires you can keep the mudflaps, so your paint wont get pelted with road debris like mine does with -10mm offset and 285s haha. Although i think you should go up a size to 265/70/17
