    Hi All,

New guy here. Just bought a '08 Tacoma TRD Sport 4x4. Has 114,000 hwy miles but is really in like-new condition inside and out. Never offroad. Amazing how these things hold up. Any tips you might pass along would be welcome.

Specifically I wanted to ask about the shocks. Did a forum search but couldn't find an answer ot my question. My truck has the stock Bilsteins and I assume they are original. Considering that this truck has been used gently, how long can I expect these shocks to last? They seem to be fine right now. Secondly, when it does come time to replace them, it looks like most are recommending the 5100's. What would be the difference. Thanks for your help.

    Welcome!

I've seen stock Bilsteins go longer than that without problems, but like any moving part, they get worn out after a while and replacing them would not be a bad idea. 5100's are great shocks, which I am trying to buy for my own truck at the moment. The biggest difference is the 5100's are adjustable from 0-2.5" of lift. It's ideal in case you ever think about lifting the truck, you just need to take the shocks off and adjust the height and replace. I hear they are also a step up in ride quality from stock Bilsteins.
