I don't think you can go wrong with either the Nitros or 5100s. The Nitros are "designed" for use with the OME coils, where as the 5100s are "designed" for use with factory coils.

FWIW, I ran 5100s @1.75 on stock coils for 10-12k miles. I then bumped them to 0 and added 887 coils and they have been on for over 20k with no issues.

I plan to run OME 887 with either shock. Really interested in comparing the 5100 to both NitroCharger standard and softer tuned. Dakar leaf pack in rear. JBA UCA. I just started the thread to get all of the information and conversations I need for my build in one spot.

How are your CV Angles? That is the only thing holding me from 887's. I want to use a Full Dakar rear though and it is 2.75" of lift. I think the 887's are the only OME spring that won't add to the rake.

They have been fine so far. I've been keeping an eye on the fins and they are pretty close to touching, but nothing has ripped.

Do you think that they will tear? I plan on running JBA UCA's, but i don't know that they will help to correct CV angles

I mean, eventually I would say yes just because of the added angle and from the stress of off roading. Some people install the diff drop to get some of the angle back closer to stock.

How many miles do you have since adding the 887's? What is your driving style (daily driver, weekend warrior, dedicated off roader) Most of the threads i have read about the differential drop kits is that they are basically rotating the axle, and not actually dropping it down. If that is the case it hardly seems worth the effort. I have no experience with lifts or mechanics, so i could be wrong.

I think I am over 20k miles after adding the 887s. Mine is a daily driver even though I WFH. It sees alot of highway miles, and then lots of beaches Spring-Fall.

Yes, the diff drop does rotate the diff but it's still reducing the angle a bit. There is lots of discussion on the Pros and Cons of the Diff drop. Asking questions about it is like asking people what type of oil they use, and how long they go between changes lol

20,000 miles and no tears. I think i'll take the risk as well and just monitor the boots.

I didn't do any diff drops (Given I got 2.5" of lift with the 885s) and I'm not having any issues. I'm at around 20,000 on this setup I think.

I was able to talk to @HeadStrong Off-Road today to clear up the final questions I had. I find it easier to talk in person. Not only were they able to answer my questions technically, but also able to explain everything in a very easy to understand manner. She also explained the markings on the Dakar rears so I know how to install. I also opted for the assembly of the coil overs. She made sure to point out that the trim packet would be on the assembled driver side. Very thorough customer service.

I decided on OME 887 w/ Nitro 90021 softer valved
    NitroCharger rear shocks
    Dakar 095 rear leaf pack
    SPC Light Racing UCA

I also ordered Dick Cepek Extreme Country 255/85/16

    I hope I don’t regret this.

3” of lift is my goal. I don’t want to go over that though. The 888 are 5 mm longer. I think my cv angles are going to be close with the 887, but others are able to run with no issues after 20,000. I’ve heard of people running the 888 on third gens but not as much on 2nd gens. I spent 3 months really reading all the threads that were pertaining to my questions and 885 seemed to be the most popular and maybe practical spring. I just decided that for my purposes and to really try to ensure I have no rubbing issues I went with 887.

Ok...I must have missed the 2nd gen part, I'm running 3rd and was ordering the 888s. I had just done a search and never paid any mind to what forum it directed me to..

I’ve done that a million times this past few months trying to gather all my information. From what I have gathered though you should be good to go with the 888, but may be into the UCA territory though.

aires 3D mats, scan gauge II, rear differential breather relocation, and bakflip G2 bed cover.
Here's mine with 884's and 5100's set to zero with air bags on back for 2" of lift. 1/4 spacer on drivers side. I can lift rear with bags 3"s.

I planned to do that. I had a 2008 w UCAs and 3" lift. Dakar rears and strut spacer on front, 5100s all the way around. Ride was too stiff for me. That's why I am going all OME

Just ordered full OME kit today from headstrong off-road. Really glad to hear you say that because I couldn’t make my mind up between 5100 and nitrochargers. I opted for the softer valved 90021. I can’t wait to get everything installed.
