So I’ve been trying to do some research on the code P0251 because it just recently popped up on my 2005 v6 Tacoma w/ 49k miles. After going through many websites I haven’t been able to find much of anything. Was just curious if any of you all had come across this before. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I’ve read through the entire thing on there. Where is the injection pump located on the 2nd gen tacos?

And heck now the weird thing is that most websites say this code is associated with diesel engines??? What the heck i am so confused on this one. Literally only have 2 codes showing up on my taco. P0031 and P0251 and i know the first one is for bank 1 sensor 1 O2. Really stumped on the second code.

I thought I read on here in the last few days that the code and description are for the fuel evaporative canister or something like that even though the code description doesn’t say anything about that? Anyone else read that? Did you recently get fuel? Start with the basics. It’s possible the o2 sensor code popped the other one?

Digging around the web, I see that P0251 is often associated with diesel - mentioned above. #1 in the list of causes is "optical sensor" - only used in diesel engines. This might be why it's not showing up in the Tacoma FSM. Following "optical sensor" are 3 other causes which are common in gas engines:

    • crankshaft position sensor
    • accelerator pedal position sensor
    • intake air temperature sensor

I know it’s kind of weird that it popped up just because every website says that it’s associated with Diesel engines. I’m going to replace the O2 sensor and see if that makes both codes go away. Hopefully that is the case
