I have an issue with parallel parking. My issue is that when ever I parallel park, I always seems to manage to hit the rear passenger tire onto the curb. I dont hit it too hard but it sometimes scratches up my tire. Does anyone know if doing this will mess up my tires or rims? Or if this will mess up my alignment? I hit the curb about once a week. Im an experienced driver...just difficult to see at night when reversing into a parallel park. Thanks !

it doesnt happen to common. only at night when its difficult to see. I live in a dark street with no street lights so it happens on occasion.

Curb rash will damage your tires and/or rims sooner or later. If it's too dark to see, consider adding some rock lights, or in your case, curb lights. Or move to an area like Texas where parallel parking is mostly unheard of.

thanks for the replies. ok i understand that it will damage tires since my tires have scratches on them. could i also be damaging my rims also? im doing maybe 1 to 3 mph when reversing...is this speed fast enough to bend the rim? my tires are fat so when i curb rash its only rashing on the tires. also, will this curb rash i do mess up my rear wheel alignment? i am confused because i dont know if my rear wheels even get aligned or not. I know on some trucks the rear wheels are permantly fixed with no adjustments so you cant align them. not sure about our tacomas and if they have that option. im a good parallel parker its just hard to see at night. i asked the city to put up some street lights but they said its not in their budget so i would have to pay for it. they quoted me 10 grand to put up 3 street lights....what the heck!

It's really not a big deal. Only problem that you might get is cosmetic damage. I run the curb over everyday when I come home. It's just how I park when parking in front of my house. Ive yet to scratch my rims or cause any damage to my tires.

My wife on the other hand drives a Lexus. When she hits the curb her rims get scratched very badly, her tires are fine.

No alignment issues on either one. You would have to hit the rear very hard to mess with the alignment of the rear axle.

    That's cheap.
Service feed, a few hundred feet of conduit, poles and lights aren't cheap... 10 grand I'd almost think they'd be using salvaged poles.

For comparison, an intersection costs over $100k.

Change the mechanics of how you park. Figure out when you need to cut the wheel to not hit the curb, then practice it. Another thought... park on the curb, lol

You want 10 ply tires,,,buy 10 ply tires.

A couple switchable spots mounted in/on the back bumper area helps a bunch. Or just a couple clear marker lights up underneath,,nopi lights.

Had a similar pic staged and ready to go,,lol.

Big ol'e CB antennaye hanging out there. Cracking ankles as you drive down the street.

Readust your pass mirror down a bit, so you can spot that right rear tire and see your bumper on that side a bit better Zero. Clutch and slight brake pedal as you angle back and in,,so it holds your brake lights lit as well as your backup bulbs. Hell, crank the emerg 4 ways on too for extra light.

How high is your passenger mirror? I keep my a little lower (not too low) so I can see the curb. I also lean towards the passenger seat a bit to get a better look ... Seems to work fine

OP: You seem like your are genuinely worried. So here you go:

Your tires will be fine if you run them slowly against a curb. That stress is nothing compared to the average wheeling trip. If you rub your rim on the curb, it will scratch. Light scratches can be painted over. Deep scratches are usually repairable but require a little more. I say don't worry about it.

If your lawn or dirt is by the curb add some solar charged lawn lights?
Might be able to see that curb.

LOL 10k is cheap for light poles but I dont have 10k to spend :) !

I miss living out in Chino. There is alot of good entry level offroad trails around that whole area around the airport. My fav though is the trail accross the street from the shooting range where the dog rescue is. There are also a few other back roads around the rescue that are good too. I only have a 2wd so I cant do anything crazy. Cool thing too is that the mud is always damp in that area because of that marshland.

LOL what I like to do is offroad there for a little while, just enough to get my truck super muddy. Then I tell everyone I go offroad enthusiast and I do it regularly HAHA.

Sad to say I lost my house there in Chino (luckily a short sale) so Im living back in the SGV area in which im renting now :(
