Passenger dash rattle

I've heard this before and tried before but there was still another rattle. Last night before work, I found a spot that snapped into place close to the air vent. It was 36 degrees this AM and no rattle on my way from work! Seems that all of the spots are tight, for now. It'd be funny if that was the only issue the whole time and who knows how much warranty time they spent trying to fix this, when it was just an improperly fastened A-pillar...

 

Mine JUST started doing this a couple of days ago, nice to know I'm not alone.

 

I swear I saw an entire thread on this that had it resolved pretty easily as either a loose wire inside the A pillar cover that needed a dab of hot glue or goop, and the the other was just a squeak related to the speaker cover/a-pillar plastics rubbing when cold that just needed a little bit of something stuffed in there to keep them from moving.

 

I had a similar sound and it was actually coming from the rear view mirror. Might be worth checking it out.

 

I had a similar rattle I thought was coming from the same place
Turned out it was below the glove box
I searched the forum and found a few fixes
The one that worked for me was a few wire ties around a wire harness found underneath the glove box. It's loosely wrapped in black vinyl
Now all I hear is the tranny constantly shifting

I decided to fix it myself. There are no "clips" that snap the A-pillar into place, only the (2) 10mm bolts in the handle. This allows for play near the speaker cover. Aside from that, the cheap foam lining that they use to dampen the trim does not make contact and or adhere with all of the plastic. When I tapped this area, it sounded like the "rattle" that we hear when it's cold. I bet it gets brittle when it's cold and just rattles between the plastics. I used some double-sided tape to adhere this, then added some 3M foam in areas to make it more snug. BOOM!

 

I just had this issue and took it to the dealer, they told me they put additional material between the passenger a pillar and the speaker grill as it was clear it was making contact to the point where the speaker grill was actually scratching the pillar. I will wait for my commute tomorrow morning to see if it is really gone as it has been an on-going thing for the last few weeks and it was driving me wild.

 

That's the issue, the lack of foam. I had the same issue with mine. I tried to wedge the two pieces apart ( a pillar and speaker grille), I tried to snap the a-pillar piece back in as others on the forum have mentioned, but I never took it apart. The dealer took the a pillar off, added some foam, and it's been quiet ever since.

For such a small contact area between the two pieces, it was a really loud and annoying sound.

 

I've put some foam between the passenger A pillar and speaker grill, but the sound still there. I think its coming from under the center console, near the shifter. Anyone have experience with rattles around the shifter?

 

I did the push/slam/snap move... heard a small pop, and the noise has been gone ever since. this was after the dealer "fixed" the speaker grill (that did nothing). amazed and hopeful how easy this was.

 

This was driving me nuts. Just fixed in 15 minutes with a 10 dollar roll of felt tape from Amazon. Thanks for the advice all.

 

Less than 2K miles and I have the squeak. I guess I'll be working on my $35,000 truck to track down silly problems that my 04 Xterra never had. Thanks for all the advice and helpful hints guys.

 

Just want to jump in and say this fixed my 2017 OR. It was driving me insane for the few week I’ve owned it, but pressing “forward” on the a-pillar did exactly what was described. The whole thing shifted forward what felt like an inch or two, and seated in. I haven’t had a problem since. Maybe the a pillar trim installer was just half asleep when he popped that piece in at the factory!

 

I have a 17 OR also, and I also have this problem, just hit 2,000 miles FFS.

Below 60 degrees outside, the rattling is so loud and constant, drives me nuts!

I have an appointment for friday, but I'll go give this a shot and see if it takes care of it. Thanks!

 

I have this same issue on my 2017 TRD Sport. 10,000 miles hearing this god awful noise when it's cold out.

So glad to see the fix is simply adding foam or felt tape!

 

Luckily you drive a safe vehicle now. The Xterra always did poorly in crash testing.

 

Since I was upgrading the tweeters I decided to hit this as well. Only had brown felt but nobody is looking there anyway
