naaaahhhh. the worst I get is a high pitched metallic whine once in a while on the highway. Not too bad for a plastic bed. Except when tractor supply slid a 600 pound gun safe into the back side of the bed and caved it in because it was plastic... and the tailgate is sagging because there are plastic grommitts in the hinges for some crazy reason that it smashed.

You can ignore them until you’re in an accident and then the lawyers will eat your lunch.

    Yup.

My buddy's wife was in an accident that the on the scene LEOs (not good cops and have since been fired for unrelated stuff) just wrote off as her fault because she is epileptic. She did NOT have a seizure, but the LEOs took the easy out on it.

Well, then the details come up and the other vehicle involved was a small SUV with a way too big trailer and the insurance shifts hard and is pursuing the other driver because they were overloaded. That makes them legally liable even if she had a seizure, because that vehicle shouldn't have been on the road at all. Makes them at fault no matter what, even if they had been hit by somebody running a red light.

Stickers, addendum stickers, recalled stickers, published numbers for marketing purposes versus final delivery numbers, all debated here…which is why I agree that if you want something done right, just weigh & calculate it yourself.

Absolutely correct, I've been towing large pickup campers for years and the manufacturers weights are always off as well. For a small fee the cat scale can tell you where you're at loaded! MY last setup '24 GMC 3500/Lance 855s was 600 pds over after I weighed it and I thought I was 600pds under, had to strip some gear to get it closer. Yotadust is probably 1600-1800 pds over with his 1 ton bed cargo, extra interior cargo, and his weight.

The tacos are super light duty. Id stick to around 300 or 400 lbs max in the bed if I were you.

4th gen has higher payload than 3rd. Both my 3rd were around 800.

Was at the dealer today, and looked at a TRD sport. Compared to my OR (Sport/OR), Toyota's site lists:

    Curb Wt: 4575/4650
    GVWR: 6005/6175
    Payload: 1430/1525

The tire sticker listed 1200 lbs, just like my OR. I sent corporate an email. None of this makes any sense.

    -edit-

The '24 owner's manual lists my truck's payload at 1270, making 3 different numbers. 1525 from the website, 1270 in the manual, and 1200 on the sticker.

Toyota's response. Probably crafted by the lawyers, and l wouldn't be surprised if it's due to the recall for the Gulf States Toyota incorrect load stickers.

"Thank you for contacting us about your 2024 Toyota Tacoma. We understand the importance of making sure you are going by the correct payload capacity and we appreciate the opportunity to provide clarity.

We apologize as all information presented in our sales brochures and website is based on data available at the time of printing, is subject to change without notice and pertains specifically to mainland U.S.A. vehicles only. As such, we recommend following the information provided on your tire and loading label.

That recall had nothing to do with the factory payload sticker. Gulf States (the distributor) has a habit of putting all kinds of added accessories on vehicles they sell as a way to increase profit. The recall was because they didn’t add the little yellow sticker that says how much the payload was reduced by the added side steps, mud flaps, window guards, etc.

Thus making corporate gun-shy about payload stickers.

Not at all. The Gulf States issue has nothing to do with corporate. The payload sticker on your truck is the legal amount as declared by the manufacturer. A generic customer service representative isn’t going to have the engineering database to tell you what your truck weighed when it left the factory floor and why the payload is labeled that way for your specific VIN.

Toyota had to issue the recall, not the distributor. The distributor exposed them to legal risk.

Incorrect. The recall was issued by the distributor for vehicles the distributor handled.

So Gulf States Toyota is a manufacturer? Your document says so, so it must be true.

This is such a cop-out by Toyota. Total non-answer to your inquiry.
